The Witch And The Hundred Knight Conjures Up More Screenshots

By Spencer . December 23, 2013 . 4:00pm

Yes, Metallia, that really is the Hundred Knight and you control the legendary servant in The Witch and the Hundred Knight. NIS America sent over a few more screenshots from the English version, which comes out on March 25, 2014 in North America. It looks like they will sell out of the limited edition before that, though.

I really wanted to get this, but when I found out you’re not going to be controlling Metallia, it put me back a bit. Still debating whether to get it or not D: I bought Metallia DLC for Disgaea D2 which made me even more sad you won’t be controlling her in this game x__x

    • Freud_Hater

Well she’s still a main character with tons of dialogue and stuff… Good enough for me =D

    • I know, right? ;u;

The knight is adorable and all, but let us control the witch!
Maybe if there’s a sequel or spiritual successor, we’d be so lucky~.

      • sakusakusakura_nyo

Yeah I want to be the witch too! The 100 knight guy is too plain looking for me to get excited about.

    • DesmaX

idk, for these darker games, I’d rather have a neutral character. It just feel off for me when a main character of a game starts doing something I would never think off.

And, of course, the humanoid models do move kinda awkward in this game (It’s their first 3D game, it’s understandable), so something like the Hundred Knight do work quite nicely for this game (Even though his design is kinda too gimmicky)

      • icecoffemix

        *read it’s NIS 1st 3D game*

Wu, what are you talki- damnnn you’re right o_o

    • God

The only thing that put me back was that they decided to change her name to Metallia, with Metallica there was so much oportunity for puns and references…

      • FlyingPony

Nah, I prefer Metallia, since Metallica remind me of four angry dudes singing a hard rock song. It will take forever for me to erase that image from my head.

        • God

It’s an RPG about a knight and an “evil” witch, explain me how “four angry dudes singing a hard rock song” is innapropiate.

      • Ladius

And lawsuits, which is probably the reason they opted for that little change.

        • God

And what kind of judge would plea them as guilty?

      • Good point, I’d forgotten that. Now I just keep thinking Sailor Moon references rather than rock references. Which isn’t a loss or a bad thing (my preference even), but that’s not as fun in this case.

        • God

As someone who hasn’t seen and doesn’t have any intention to see sailor moon, i can only say: DAMNIT!

          • Well, there’s a reboot on the way so watching the older anime is no longer a necessity~. The more I think about it though, the more Sailor Moon references would be very fitting.

          • God

The reboot is not enough to ignite in me an interest for magical girls though, so i must repeat: DAMNIT!

          • What!? No interest in magical girls?? You’re missing out!

          • God

It’s a bunch of teenage girls using magic and fanservice, how much can i be missing out? (actual question, not sarcasm)

          • I suppose if you’re talking about Nanoha, Madoka or Vividred Operation then yeah (sans magic on the last), but otherwise? So much more is going on~!

Magic Knight Rayearth is a fun series with a cool fantasy world and mecha, Ojamajo Doremi is a cute witch magical girl series that’s absolutely hilarious and often tackles a variety of issues while being silly, magical fun and Pretty Cure is by the people that made Ojamajo and the DBZ anime; it’s magical warrior at its finest and has great fights, generally good writing and something for everyone amongst one of its many (not usually connected) seasons.

And of course, Sailor Moon is quite the classic and for good reason. The anime is fun and generally has good filler (definitely for the first three seasons). It does have a slight amount of fanservice, but never panders or anything and sometimes pokes fun at it even. I prefer and suggest the manga though; it’s a bit lacking in character development because it’s so much shorter, but the plot is way more concise. The characters are diverse and great and Takeuchi knows a lot and it shows (a lot of science, mythology and religion is often referenced – and accurately).

Of course, there are plenty other magical girl series of all types that do cool things, older and newer. Just depends on what you’re into~.

          • God

Magik Knight Rayehart actually seems very interesting, i might end up reading it later, but as for ojamajo and pretty cure, they are too… girlish? i’m basing this only on the images i’ve seen but the colors and style of animation makes it look as if it was made for 8 year old girls… this is only prejudice, and they maybe good but my list of “to watch” is pretty goddamn big, so i doub i’ll ever care enough to watch them.
I might read the sailor moon manga (that way i’ll finally get all of those references on the internet), and since it’s shorter, it might be a good way to see if i change my mind about the whole magical girl shebang.
Into? I don’t care about pretty much anything if it has a good plot… OR epic fighting sequences, LOTS of epic fighting sequences.

          • It’s also a nice, short read which is nice. Ojamajo isn’t too girly at all actually, and PreCure varies depending on the season/series. It does have spectacular fights though (some series are more DBZ level and some are more actual choreography). Generally, a lot of magical girl shows are made for 8 year old girls to sell toys, but they also tend to have pretty spectacular writing and production values which is nice.

I wouldn’t say the genre as a whole is something you should need to care about/get into it, but it’s not one I would neglect to look into because of certain misgivings~. The Sailor Moon manga is definitely great though and nice. But I definitely suggest a couple of the PreCure seasons if you want epic fights (Futari wa, Splash Star and HeartCatch or Suite primarily).

          • M’iau M’iaut

Doremi gets pretty girly once the kindergarteners start showing up. It’s really amazing how much of Jadeite’s love affair ended up left after the hackjob localization.

          • You think so? I think it gets goofier. x’D
I feel like when . . .a certain girl officially joins, it becomes more somber and picks back up and has these hints of shoujo-girlyness that barely flit in and out.

Also, yay for Ojamajo fans! Troublesome witches/wizards unite~!

          • M’iau M’iaut

To think someone in authority actually thought those figures would sell in American toy stores.

          • Hehe, I am never surprised by what higher-ups think when it comes female audiences and media (young or old, none are safe from the horrible assumptions).

          • M’iau M’iaut

I do like that both the Doremi figures and the CardCaptor ones were largely the same dolls Japan got. I just know most of the buyers were Otaku. Doremi at least was kept as a girl’s targeted show, unlike Mew Mew or CCS.

          • Yeah. I heard how a few of the girls missed the chance to get those dolls when they were out and they regret it.

Ugh, I still get sad over the way CCS was warped here. I don’t know why they add the weird, extra layer of gendered edits they do to shows aimed at girls. (Makes me even more happy that shows like MLP can stay as positive and empowering though.)

    • FlyingPony

Meanwhile I glad it not the case, the Hundred Night look kinda cute and easier to watch and control, Metallia hat is too big for my taste.

Also, you shouldn’t limit yourself to not play a game because you can’t play as a fancy female lead, that is a bad habit and a good way to miss a lot of great game.

And like Freud Hater, I am looking forward for the interaction between the chibi guy and the witch. She look like a fun person to talk to.

ps. She remind me of Big Hat Logan. Man, he was a curious person, and end up just like the cat.

    • It works out very well and is also justified in the story. Basically Metallica cannot leave the swamp, but she’s going to die soon (100 days at the beginning of the game). That’s why she summons you, the Hundred Knight.

She sends you out to spread the swamp so she can travel a little bit before she dies. She features prominently story-wise so no worries, you get PLENTY of Mariya Ise’s lovely cackling.

      • Even though it’s justified, it still feels like such a loss. ;u;
But, it’s cool that’s still very present (I honestly just want to see the other witches the most).

  • Feels weird to see 3D in a NIS game. It just feels so off, but looks so good.

    • DesmaX

Better get used to. Woudn’t be surprised to see Disgaea 5 using 3D models

      • icecoffemix

I would love to see that if they can pull it off at least as good as GG Xrd

        • colorblindnightmare

If theu could get disgea to look that good I think GGXRD and Disgea would be the only games I’d play.

      • Not sure if they’ll use it for Disgea but I hope that they continue to work on the engine and refine it for future games. The action play-style was a lot of fun.

  • AkiraScare

the nendoroid petit of metallica is KAWAII!!! (^_____^)

    • God

Sadly, they changed her name to Metallia, no more Metallica puns…

      • deadMastershiro

I will still call her Metallica no matter what law are in the way!

        • Shady Shariest

…I have a hunch that if a sequel comes to this they will just roll with Metallica.
NIS seems to think they are on thin ice for no reason every now and then :3

          • God

Besides the fact that they are on red numbers and actually LOOSING money, and that a good deal of their development team left the company? yes, no reason.

          • Shady Shariest

I was implying the over-reaction they have to very minor things every now and then…

What were the chances of (the band) Metallica suing them for using the same name? Realistically?

          • God

Ohhhhh, so that’s what you meant… I don’t really think that is the reason they are changing the name, it may be, but i really don’t think so.

          • M’iau M’iaut

A quick google search will show the band well — has been known to be very litigious over their name. Suing folks far more removed from any sort of media than a video game company.

          • God

Really? dude, that’s kinda messed up… i mean, you shouldn’t be able to own a word for my sake!

          • M’iau M’iaut

These are also the guys who have sued for the particular CHORD other bands have played in. Not notes, just chord. :P

          • God

Wait, seriously?! Medamnit, i guess that’s what happens when you sell your soul to a company…

        • God

Yeah, but if her name is now Metallia there probably won’t be a any jokes about it in-game.

    • Good Smile is making an epic 1/8th as well.

      • WyattEpp

Nearly pre-ordered that when it first showed up on AmiAmi, but cripes is it a bit expensive for my tastes. Not many 1/8 figures I’ll spring for over 10,000 yen.

        • I had just finished the game like the day before I saw that figure show up for pre-orders. I’m just glad it wasn’t more expensive because the feels would have compelled me to spend regardless.

Will be my most expensive figure purchase though.

      • AkiraScare

i wanted to get it but i didnt have money to buy it with the offer they had on crunchyroll and on 1999 i have already ordered other figures around that time and with the CE of video games (TT_TT) im just going broke (TT_TT) for a good reason (^_^)

  • Maksim Tsirulnik

I’d just like to add that “Viseo” is asking the question. So the opening statement should be addressed to Viseo… not Metallia.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to this game.

  • SlickRoach

RPG by NISA=Day one purchase for me, limited edition of course.

  • Romancer Ecclesia

I kinda wish this game would come out for vita… it seems so portable friendly >.<

  • Earthjolly

First Puppeteer, then Guided fate paradox. now this. Three games that would be far better on the Vita, Stil getting it.

    • Punny Fuzz

I dunno, I don’t think Puppeteer would look as good on the vita as it does now. I agree with you on Guided Fate Paradox tho.

    • I definitely understand the “better on Vita” vibe, but this title really isn’t one of them. This honestly worked very well as a full-on console action game. I think I would have been annoyed trying to play it on the Vita, there are some very timing-strict play components.

  • FlyingPony

Can’t wait for this game. The gameplay really clickin’ with me.
