Would love to see a comparison for the original KH II compared to these shots

  • Saphiren

They posted some bullshots before KH 1.5 HD REMiX was released, so I don’t trust anymore.
Still excited for the collection, but I’ll wait to be happy about the “new graphics”.

    • Pinwheel

I was gonna come here to post about the bullshots. They were really freaking bad. The collection itself wasn’t bad, but S-E need to cut that crap out.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

    • MaximDualBlade

Wow… I didn’t know about this, “bullshots” a fitting name for this. I am still excited about 2.5 but they shouldn’t do this

      • Samsara09

tecnically that is false advertising what SE did.but well, most companies do this with HD remakes.

Still, just getting all the wayward Kingdom hearts in the PS2,PSP and DS on the PS3,in two packs,is already enough of a reason to buy those two remixes.I never cared much about the graphics…

        • Saphiren

Just putting the Camera Control in KH1 and is enough reason to buy the collection. And you even have the Final Mix content… in english! It´s great, indeed. The graphics are great in the final game, sometimes I forgot that the games are from PS2.

Can’t wait to Explore the Cavern of Remembrance once more, in HD.

          • Samsara09

ah yes…the final mixes made kingdom heat 1,BBS,and especially 2…some of the best rpgs around.

        • MaximDualBlade

oh yea me neitther, I still think KH2 looks great on ps2, and it’s the final mixes so it’s worth it in my opinion

    • Zeonsilt

      Thanks for the video.
Changing the graphics to a worse(than PS2)is definitely an improvement.

    • Grape Monet

At least they’re not as bad as the ones for BBS and DDD. Those used the promotional pre-rendered models of all things.

    • hazelnut1112

I can see why you’re skeptical about this.
Hopefully they improve with this, from what I heard is that they are giving it there all for this one compare to 1.5, then again it could just be them saying things.

    • dam4rus

Well, i have played these games with an emulator and I can tell you, it looks better (and to my surprise they are far more enjoyable with a key+mouse), than these cheap cash-ins… It didn’t have problem with the cutscenes in CoM even in 1080p internal resolution. When an emulator is doing a better job, than your mans who “put work into it” there is something really wrong with your company. I’m not surprised at all. There are a few decent HD remasters, like Wind Waker HD, but most of them are lazy cash-ins.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Quite interesting… although I think everyone should realize there rarely is a “definitive” version when a game is (re)released. There are always pros and cons.

      • Saphiren

Yeah, it´s just a Remaster after all, not a Remake. What I think that is wrong is the false screenshots.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

Oh, so true. I am not quite about that either…

    • Well while I can see this false advertising I think it’s still much better than playing your PS2 games on an HD TV, now that’s hella blurry @[email protected]

Just them being a collection with Final Mix versions and adapted graphics for an HD TV is good enough for me~

      • Saphiren

For me too! Kingdom Hearts is my favorite Video Game Series, and play that I love in HD it´s heaven.

    • Sad to see SE have to do that. Honestly, though, by the time I got 1.5 I didn’t give a crap about any screenshots, I enjoyed the games.

Still, it wouldn’t have hurt SE to take some of Everglow’s suggestions into actual consideration; provided they had the same thoughts.

I hope all the extra work they’re putting in for 2.5 comes out for the better. And even if they don’t and it ends up more or less like 1.5… It’s nostalgia in a box– I’ll still play KH till my eyes bleed!

  • Time to get your Cave of Remembrance speed running on soon…

Then again, I’d wonder how many people have actually gone and grabbed a copy of KH2FM+ to have seen that. Those are some really fun fights at L1 CM.

    • Darn straight they are!

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix is arguably the best entry in the series, just because of all the little extras that are packed into it.My L1 critical file has well over 400 hours on it by now.

I recently started a new playthrough of it; recent as in yesterday, using PCSX2 on my gaming rig…this game is gorgeous when up-scaled. But that pales in comparison to what Square seems to be doing. (referring to the last trailer)

Sora’s model seems to be more attuned; texture wise, with the colors and saturation of his Kingdom Hearts III model…

Still though, I cannot wait to see how the Cavern of Remembrance looks in HD. That place is filled with so many frustrating and triumphant memories for me– I can’t wait to feel tortured by the AI. : D

  • AlteisenX

I can’t say I see a difference because PS2 KH still looks amazing to me… Then again, I’m not much for HD Remasters typically. I am looking forward to big screen BbS though, even though I’ve already beaten them both multiple times x]

    • KH2 looks amazing on PS2?
So, have you ever played II Final Mix?

They actually polished up the textures and upped the poly count for a good majority of the models for it. It’s not very noticeable unless you are aware of it though. lol

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    dat HD BBS

  • MaximDualBlade

The only collection I’ve been really excited, I personally think that the addition of Coded is slowing the development of this collection,, because the story of Coded is really minimal and I hope they add an explanation or story bits of what happened in 3D in the Coded Movie ,as 3D story along with BBS sets the ideas for what will most likely happen in KH3.

KH2FM has a really decent amount of added content and it was cruel to have never been released outside of Japan and making people use hacked memory cards for the ps2, emulators, or in the rarest of cases a japanese ps2 with the game. The whole Organization XIII data boss battles and especially adding the boss battle with Roxas(that should have been in the original) amongst other stuff(keyblades, armors, accesories, lingering sentiment, story bits).

BBSFM has the less amount of stuff added from the international version if i recall correctly. The HD quality will look great on BBS and a console release for a game well deserving the number 0 episode in the story.

And talking about episodes, what happened to BBS episode 2? They never explained that ending and it seemed interesting. Just curiosity, I’m not asking for another game XD I just want KH3

    • Hacked memory cards?
Swap Magic worked just fine, you know?

I also love you listed maybe…1/8th of the added content to KHII FM. If that’s all you think is there, you’ll be in for a huge surprise when you get your hands on HD. I can assure you of that ~

Birth by Sleep Final Mix has everything added from the international version, five new boss fights, a Secret Episode, several new keyblades, the addition of a new command style, reworked models and some redone English voice acting. As well a highly nerfed MegaFlare and a new command board.

There were also a lot of small edits to enemy AI that just made gameplay feel more rewarding.

      • MaximDualBlade

Dude I know, but my comment was long enough to continue to list all new stuff.

My method to play KH2FM was with a hacked memory card, a guy I knew did it for free and even downloaded the game for me, so it wasn’t a problem, but I forgot to mention Swap Magic.

I have never played BBS but i know the whole story by memory, I never possessed a PSP so this collection will be really fun, plus I like the trophy addition to both games.

Obtaining the gold crown could be a fun silver trophy for KH2FM and completing Jiminy’s journal a worthy gold trophy and for BBSFM I don’t know what could be a fun trophy to do

        • MaximDualBlade

I know a perfect fun trophy: Completing the game on critical mode with Zero Exp ability. It’s perfect for a challenge in my opinion

          • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

            >I know a perfect fun trophy: Completing the game on critical mode with Zero Exp ability.

piece of cake-degeso. my third run was exactly this my first run was on proud without grinding, second on critical with grind (since it is my main save). third one for the lulz boss fights

          • MaximDualBlade

The first time will not be a piece of cake for a challenge like that jajajaa XD and no trophy can be worse than the star ocean 4 ones, that’s when I gave up on seriously(it was my second game with trophies so I didn’t become a trophy-whore, but I still like to collect them) collecting trophies on games, an I only do it if they aren’t ridiculous as hell. Those 900 battle trophies have stuff so preposterous that it’s hard to believe they got approved.

          • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

i only aim to get platinum in the games that ireally like. SO4 is one of them but unlikely the others i’ll nevertry to platinum again.
Jrpgs tends to have some stupid difficult achivements. If i remember corretcly Naridan X has some trophies that you need to beat the game under 5 hours, beat the game with dio and meo on lvl 15 or under and one envolving the instant death flag mode. they’re too much time consuming and aside for the tropies you don’t get anything else so i didn’t even bother

          • MaximDualBlade

oh absolutely me too, but unfortuntely I didn’t want to spend 700h doing the battle trophies, and I’m sure that’s an accurate time for that specific trophy XD then you have to beat it on all difficulties except Earth, and let’s not forget all the missables, like doing all the quests. I hope Star Ocean 5 exists and for it to have a more mature protagonist because Edge was a kid all the way. *SPOILERS* I destroyed a planet on accident, so for penitence I will spend half of the game being sad and negative :)

        > highly nerfed MegaFlare
        *only played BBSFM*
megaflare is still OP as hell lol
Now i want to test the non-nerfed version

BBS2 got droped because nomura don’t want to do it.

  • Sardorim

Must be awkward for Ventus. He’s literally the third wheel that’s between Aqua and Terra.

    • Arcana Wiz

seriously? i think its more that aqua is the third well in this story :D
jokes aside, i always saw their relationship as aqua the caring yet strict mother figure and terra as the paternal figure to ventus.

      • Samsara09

Quite a paternal figure Terra is,thank goodness for Ventus having Aqua to compensate, heheehehe.Still,Terra is frickin badass.I would say Aqua is the mother or the eldest sister,Terra is the elder brother, and ventus is the younger brother

    • 하세요

Yet he still made the ultimate sacrifice in the end. Voluntarily, that is.

  • Demeanor

Wow, this game includes both KH2 and BBS??? Epic-tier material multiplied by two…

    • Steven Higgins

Not only that, but the Final Mix versions of both

  • Earthjolly

Is Kh 2 really much better than Kh 1? I purchased 1.5 and found it pretty meh

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Story or gameplay? I can’t comment on story, since I’m not *that* into it. Gameplay… it sure is.

      • Earthjolly

Both. The gameplay I found very simple and unrewarding. Was expecting a Ys action type game and the story just…didn’t click on me too much.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

Oh, then yes! KH2’s action is faster pace. Although most abilities (high jump, glide, magic, guard break, counter guard, aerial finish, etc) that enable you to do all sorts of things… you get as you progress through the game (as for most games).
The action is pretty fast, I regard KHII as a great action game, more so than an RPG. I wouldn’t say it’s faster than Ys (VI, Felghana, Origin or Seven) however it’s a step above KH1 by a lot.
KH1 is pretty old by now, so I would understand why the gameplay would seem a bit slow (story as well).

I still can’t say much about the story. I really liked it when it came out, but that was because I was a huge fan of KH1.

          • Uh… you could progress until the end of KH II and never get High Jump, Dodge and Glide thanks to drive forms. I don’t like that since you get them as you progress on all the other entries :V

          • MrSirFeatherFang

I’m just listing general abilities for him that he might encounter and add to the overall list of what stuff Sora can do.

    • Arcana Wiz

story.. less disney–ish after KH2 but kinda the same and later it becomes a bit overwhelming and confusing…. gameplay sure is! but if you didnt like KH1 much i suggest to see some videos and wait a price drop.

    • Masa

if you didnt enjoy the first one i guess there is no point in getting this.

      • Earthjolly

Well sometimes the sequels do vastly better that it can repair my interest into the series

      • RoyalR R.M

Wrong. KH 2 is much better than 1 and so is birth by sleep.

        • Uh…. kinda disagree II being better than I. Or at least on the “much” part.

Storywise while the story is enjoyable I like the original game better (When there was not a lot of fujoshi bait :V) but I suppose that’s rather subjective.

Gameplay wise yeah, I enjoy KH II being more fast paced but… that’s about it. Command Menu is still ankward. Still a button masher. Reaction Commands not actually being Reaction Commands since there’s no punishment for early timing.
Magic is almost useless as ever but I prefer KH I’s magic system with Cure not consuming all the magic meter.

Oh and getting basic abilities from mastering Drive Forms was quite the turn off for me since I don’t find Drive Forms that usefult than your normal form except for Final Form and that’s one a hardy to get but you don’t really need it since KH II is daamn easy you don’t even need it and for the sideboss challenge you can’t even use it heh.

          All in my opinion though.

    • RoyalR R.M

Yeah and birth by sleep is better, hell the 2.5 collection is better than 1.5. So it’s worth it.

    • Saphiren

      Gameplay: Absolutely Yes.
      Story: You decide. :p

      • Couldn’t have said it better myself. Honestly tho for my personal taste, the story for part 2 was pretty great. It should have ended right there and have given a satisfying conclusion: everyone is with their , Organization 13 is no more, Roxas and Namine are ‘back where they belong,’ etc.

But this is SE after all, if its making money, make some more of it O_o

        • Saphiren

KH2 was the perfect point to ending the series… But, I wanna see Sora in 8GBRam-Clothes! :D

  • AuraGuyChris

Birth By Sleep on the big screen. That’s soooo worth it, I’d confuse it for Kingdom Hearts III if I didn’t know any better.

Face number 2 is getting HD treatment!

    • Samsara09

      Wait…number two is from 1.5?Really?

      • MrSirFeatherFang

I don’t think that’s a good comparison image to use. I believe the left one is for the more detailed “expressive” models and the right one is the less detailed in-game model (used in cutscenes as well) even if it is from I.5 ReMix
Have you seen the video below? It’s quite informative and I just watched it.
edit: I apologize, you already knew all of this. I doubt the picture above is an accurate comparison though

        • Samsara09

?Oh,I see.Weird way to say something.ah yes…some PS2 games had a model for cutscenes and one for gameplayJust remembered it,lol!
Still, the difference is stunning. They could have done a little better job with the eyes on pic 2…but I don’t care much about graphics so the point is rather moot.

  • SerendipityX

Aqua’s head looks really flat and weird in that first screenshot of BBS.

  • Deka

I think Roxas/Ventus expressions are like Kristen Stewart’s ones.

  • new_tradition

Golly, Xehanort’s wrinkles are so clear

  • Aqua in HD~

  • Learii

any pics what different between 2.5 and the regular games?

  • Scissors

I always hear people saying they loved BBS, some even saying it was one of their favorites, or sometimes their favorite. Was anyone else disappointed with it? I’ve beaten ever KH game (except for 3D, but I’m 7 hours into it) I felt like BBS didn’t really do much with the Disney license, and the Disney characters that did appear felt like wooden doppelgangers of their animated film versions. I liked the idea of switching 3 characters, but by the time I finally got a character leveled up like I wanted their story was over, I felt like their stats should have linked or something. they could have worked it in storywise with the Dimension Link or something. Combat was very frustrating for me, I’ve had camera issues with some other games in the series, but not this bad I felt like I died a bunch of unfair deaths. Though I feel like a lot of this was due to it being on PSP, so the PS3 version will likely be much better to control. I didn’t enjoy a lot of the boss fights because they felt unfair. Most of them just lunged at me and paralyzed me and killed me while I was paralyzed, it didn’t seem skilled based either I would replay the bosses over and over until I got lucky to win.

There was some good story scenes, but I felt there were knowhere near as good as the first 3 games (at-least it had better writing than Re:coded though). I was disappointed with Aqua I was really excited to play as her because she looks so cool, and I love female characters, but I felt like even though she is considered important to the story they didn’t do as much to develop their character like they did with Ven & Terra. Ven and Terra ran off to discover who they were, and had some character development, meanwhile Aqua just chased after them and didn’t really have much of her character explored.

I understand why people like BBS, but I was really let down by it. Whenever the game is mentioned I see lots praise proclaiming it to be the best or among the best in the series, was anyone else underwhelmed by it like I was?

    • Shady Shariest

Yup. Aqua felt kinda weak… And for some Disney worlds (Like Lilo and Stitch-one) it seemed Aqua had the slowest scenarios.

And just for the sake of it.
I will forever curse Chip’n’Dale for their minigames.

    • Virus6

I enjoyed it, but my favorite in the series was 358/2 Days. The interaction between Axel, Roxas and Xion killed me inside when I played it. Even watching just the cutscenes in 1.5 HD, it still felt sad at the end of everything :(

  • Shady Shariest
