Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade Players Vote Yuna As The Most Popular Heroine

By Spencer . January 6, 2014 . 11:55pm

ffbrigaFinal Fantasy Airborne Brigade already has different Final Fantasy characters in it. Starting today, you can join the battle between Cosmos and Chaos while flying on an airship in Square Enix’s social Final Fantasy game.

Square Enix also held a survey for the game’s two year anniversary in Japan and asked players to vote on their favorite Final Fantasy heroine. Yuna took top honors and players will be able to get an UR Legend Wedding Yuna card as a bonus.

While Yuna won by a long shot, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII edged out Final Fantasy VII’s Tifa.

    • AnimusVox

      ahah right? :|

    • Karysonson

      Wasnt Lightning #1 before though?

      • Learii

yep that why they made so much FF XIII seires

    • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

Testament to how popular XIII is.

    • 永次

Lightning is popular because Maaya Sakamoto

    • Herok♞

Thats pretty funny seeing as Light was No 1 before but the most recent release always sucures that female the top spot oddly enough, and even without that Lightning > Tifa

  • negineBIT

    Lightning’s still my No.1~ (> ヮ< )

  • new_tradition

Either way, my top three fave FF gals are in the spotlight :3

  • Demeanor

Wait, you mean they see Lightning as a girl?! XD

    • greeeed

      Looking at d**jin market……….
Yes, they see Lightning as a girl

      • Dexward

Uh, why are you censoring “dojin?”

  • greeeed

at-least they used X Yuna instead of X-2
True to be told, I like the three of them^^

  • LightningFarron19

This seems very consistent with the last pole Square had about the female characters.
    It was basically:
    1. Lightning
    2. Aerith
    3. Yuna
    4. Tifa

  • epy

They really do have short-term memory over there.

    • Herok♞

My only question is how this going to turn out when FF XV comes out since there only seems to be 1 or 2 females in general there. But I am impressed people forget about the whole most recent does the best thing

    • fairysun

Well, that’s another thing in common between US and Japan.

  • Shippoyasha

I applaud them for voting Tifa so highly almost to the point of winning it all.

Though obviously Aeris was a lovable FF7 character and the obvious martyr/motherly character of the game, the entire plot centered around Tifa if you think about it. She was the sole person helping Cloud on his feet and tragically enough, she was the only person out of Nibelheim who remembered the death and ruination of the town while she had to wait a huge chunk of FF7′s story for Cloud to finally remember. She is such a tragic character to shoulder the burden of Cloud, possibly the entire adventure and the past in Nibelheim. And all for someone she didn’t even see as a potential boyfriend at first (she dryly refused Cloud early in the game. Looking back on that moment, it was pretty depressing considering Tifa was shouldering it all while Cloud didn’t remember a thing).

The way she lifted Cloud out of his trauma mid-way through the game was awe inspiring as well.

Tifa may be renowned as a sexy bartender with brutal martial arts on the surface, but she was the beating heart of Final Fantasy 7. She is easily one of the most tragic heroines I can remember from a videogame, no less Final Fantasy series.

    • Vash bane

wow I didn’t know that. I never really thought about it ( mind you I was like 6 or something last time I played 7 so I have no idea such a deeper meaning was behind all that crazy stuff…sephy i’m looking at you bro x_x lol)

  • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Sure discredit the actual strong female leads. Ignore Ashe, Tina(Terra), Celes, Sarah(Dagger) or Agrias.

    • Shippoyasha

I adore Agrias and Celes, but both of them (especially Agrias) just didn’t have enough to work with in their respective stories. While Yuna pretty much owned the mindshare of FFX and of course, Lightning arguably being the major lead in two games. Tifa was actually a really strong character I could argue.

    • 3PointDecoupage

Where did you get the names Tina and Sarah from?

      • Arcana Wiz

        original names, in Japan.

      • Anime10121

Tina is Terra’s Japanese name, whereas Sarah is Garnet’s “true” name in the localized version (its spoilers to say WHY she has a “true” name if you havent beaten IX).

        • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Glad I wasn’t the only one on here that found her real name in the game :)

          • Anime10121

FFIX is my favorite game in the series. I’ve spent SO much time, with that game, and its characters, and I loved how they added little touches like that in the game!

    • Chiupon

this is a japanese ranking and i can assure you all of those characters (aside from agrias) enjoy minimal popularity to the point of almost being irrelevant
EDIT: okay i was def wrong about that terra and celes are hella popular woah

plus yuna was actually strong. please remember throughout most of FFX she’s operating under the assumption that she has to sacrifice her life to save an entire population of people for something seemingly futile and manages to still behave like a normal human being without sobbing monologues every 2 minutes in addition to being waifu material

Lightning just has maaya sakamoto and hitting people going for her b/c from what i’ve been playing in ff13 she just seems to be a really big tsundere (which i imagine gave her dem points)

tifa’s got the same stuff going as yuna but with tits i’m hella surprised she didn’t win

    • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

      All my favs right there, just short of the V gals. ;u;
But Yuna is also one of my babies so I’m not so upset over her lol.

  • Dexward

A pity this game is basically dead in the west.

  • 3PointDecoupage

We all know who should have won.
    http://static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130311020205/finalfantasy/images/8/82/FFIX_Indulgence.jpg

Yes, she’s a woman! I’m like eighty percent positive on this.

    • boink

“Why you care about small things? World very simple place. World only have 2 things: things you can eat and things you no can eat.”
      10/10 waifu/husbando.

  • Arcana Wiz

I wanted to know the others places, like celes and terra, last poll they were at 5º and 6º position.

  • Timovisch

    Where’s my Rydia? D:

  • Virevolte

    Those results look convenient.

  • Yan Zhao

Yuna is that popular? I never would’ve guessed. Shes nowhere near the top of my list.

  • http://takopako.tumblr.com takopako

    but Fran…

    • 하세요

I still get chills when she goes bankai on the airship. I love Fran so much.

      • http://takopako.tumblr.com takopako

YES! me, too! i would always go to youtube and just watch that scene over and over …

damn, looks like it’s time to bust out the old ps2, again.

  • ivanchu77

Holy crap, look at the difference in votes xD , i didn´t expect Yuna to be so dominant in popularity, i guess they have another excuse to make FFX-3 now

  • Unlimax

    Yo Lightning ~

  • BeatTheGG

I never did like Yuna. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me or everyone else. Needless to say, none of my favorite FF girls are popular enough to make it on the list it seems :( But oh well. You win some, you lose some right?

    • 하세요

Everyone has different tastes in their heroines. I liked Yuna because of how she was dedicated to protecting the people, even if it means

*spoilers, very shocked if no one knows X’s story by now*

She must sacrifice her life for just a few years of tranquility, then turns around and defeats the one thing she was told to believe in all of her life.

      *end spoilers*

To me, it’s not always about being some kind of badass, but what one would sacrifice for others.

      • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

Nicely put~. Of course, that right there is also true strength (probably the truest).

      • BeatTheGG

Heh nicely said and yes I agree it is all in opinion. While I also agree on her being a selfless tragic hero of sorts it unfortunately didn’t do anything to really make her appeal to me personally, especially when I’ve seen this kind of thing done many times in and out the series. I guess she just isn’t my cup of tea characteristic and personality wise. On the other hand, I like the way you think. Most people seem to believe that good character traits come from how the person is unstoppable (male or female) when it’s really the ones with the most flaws that I seem to love the most.

Garnet, Ashe, Prishe, Rydia and Faris are probably my top 5.

  • Daigure

Love Tifa, but would love to see Celes, Rydia, and Ashe… ah well.
