Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Will Use The PS4 Controller’s Speaker

By Ishaan . January 8, 2014 . 9:58am

In a tweet this morning, Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima shared a fun tidbit about the PlayStation 4 version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

Of late, Kojima has been testing Ground Zeroes’ controls across all four consoles it’s scheduled to be available on, and this morning, he was checking the PlayStation 4 of the game, using the Dualshock 4 controller.

Kojima tweeted: “Back to checking the game on PS4 today. Donna-san’s voice will come out of the speaker on the Dualshock 4 controller. lol” He included the image above with his tweet.

“Donna-san” presumably refers to Donna Burke, an Australian voice-actress-cum-singer who is lending her voice to the game. Just what sounds we’ll hear coming out of the Dualshock 4 speakers remains to be seen.

    “voice-actress-cum-singer”……………..Well I’m sold ;)

    • Tom

What is a cum singer? I can only think of naughty things…

      • xAKUM3TSUx

Then you’re halfway there! (Honestly I have no clue, we’re in the same boat lolz)

        eheheh

      • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

She’s a VA and a singer. the “cum” used in that sentence comes from latin and is used when someone or something has two roles

        • Tom

          Thanks, that makes sense.

        • Syn

          hehehehehe, “two roles”..*snicker*…..

    • Syn

      lol, my thoughts exactly lol

  • vileBrenman

I bet the codec/ radio calls come out of the controller speaker.

    • God

      That would be awsome!!

  • Namuro

Kinda like the calls before the boss fights in No More Heroes, I suppose? I still remember how my my friends were so surprised to see me using the Wiimote as a handset back then, LOL.

I wonder, to what extent will they use this feature in MGSV.

  • Razzlero

Ugh… the controller speaker. I hate that feature in the ps4 controller and the wiimote. Because I need to change the audio settings for them separately to my TV (That and it involves going into menus to change the volume for them, probably won;t be as bad if it had it’s own slider or volume buttons)

    • pressstart

It is sort of annoying when you compare the sound quality between the controller speaker and your tv or sound system.

      • s07195

If it was sound effects though, the Wiimote was cool. (I’m thinking Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

  • fool

Kojima’s always made use of unique features of consoles in all his Metal Gear games. I can’t help but think that spreading the release over multiple consoles and generations is going to hinder the game.

  • DCBlackbird

Huh…. I f that’s how the codec calls are gonna be done…. Then I’ll probably miss a few……. important factoids

  • Blick Winkel

I read “Donna Burke” and instantly think of Snake in Nanoha Takamachi’s outfit. “Standby ready! Set up!”

  • Darkbeat

I follow Kojima on twitter as well. That he’s 50 and still write “LOL” on his tweets is…. weird…..

    • Keiji Johnson

      Kojima is 50?! O_O

      • Darkbeat

Them Asian genes! (and probably also Nanomachines, son)

Metal Gear came out in ’87 when he was in his early twenties.

      • http://playstationallstars.wikia.com/wiki/PlayStation_All-Stars_Wiki Sackchief

He’s been making the games since the eighties. How young can he be?

        • xXDGFXx

Young enough to not look 50.

  • bushin

She’s the voice of the I-Droid too so I’m guessing when you use it to mark the helicopter and other things things she’ll speak through the pad instead of the tv. I think that’s a neat little trick. I wonder what else will be through the speaker? If codec calls are then that’ll be interesting..

  • boink

Looks like another way for Kojima to break the 4th wall
