Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Z Has Super Vegeta And Super Saiyan Bardock As DLC Characters

By Spencer . January 19, 2014 . 9:45pm

imageUnlike recent Dragon Ball Z fighting games, each transformation is considered a different character in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. The four player fighting game will have downloadable characters too.

Super Vegeta and Super Saiyan Bardock were confirmed by Jump as DLC scheduled to come out on February 6, two weeks after Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z comes out in Japan. Super Saiyan Bardock is a fighting type character and Super Vegeta is a ki blast type. Each character will cost 300 yen.

Namco Bandai will release Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Vita as a digital download in North America on January 28.

Kinda underwhelming DLC to be honest. I wonder if fusions are in the game.

    • Rohan Kishibe

It’d be nice to see Super Saiyan 3 future trunks, Vegeta, and Broly. But I think Super Saiyan Bardock is pretty awesome.

    • subsamuel01

      No fusions or transformations.

  • TheExile285

Well at least I know I can get the pre-order DLC on Vita now if its being sold separately. SS Bardock will probably be my most used character.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Do you mean Super Vegetto? Super Saiyan Vegeta is kind of a stock character important to Dragon Ball’s story. Super Vegetto and Super Saiyan Bardock were confirmed to be pre-order DLC in the western release, so it would make sense for the Japanese release to mirror that.

    • Kaitsu

Oh, Super Vegetto, that’s a little bit better. I was about to say, DLC for a transformation that got his ass kicked by Cell? No thanks.

  • Masa

so characters that are normally in the DBZ games we now have to buy? Yeah, no thank you.

    • Paul Rodriguez

      Isn’t DLC grand?

    • subsamuel01

I can understand SSJ Bardock being DLC since hes a unique character, but Super Vegito was a main character from the Buu Saga.

  • Revolver Jesus Super Pimp

Still can’t really wrap my head around Super Vegito as DLC still maybe if it were Hatchiyack, Tarble along with SS Bardock then that’d be better. Seeing as how Super Vegito has been in every game so far so why make him DLC?

  • Shippoyasha

Now only if there’s a DBZ game that relives the Bardock arc with a Super Saiyan Bardock destroying Freeza. That’s like the ultimate fan-canon scenario.

    • TheExile285

Oh boy, I’d buy that in a heartbeat!

  • megaten666

    An offline multiplayer DLC, please?
If ArtDink was moronic enough to not to implement it (and I don’t see them including that in a patch), at least give me the option to pay for the fun I should have for free when I play with my brother and neighbour >:(

Also Super Saiyan Vegetto as a DLC character is just a new kind of low (T_T)

    • http://s932.photobucket.com/ usagi_san

I don’t see how an offline multiplayer would work with this game; unless they went for split screen.

      • British_Otaku

That is exactly what Spike did with Budokai Tenkaichi in 2005, their first attempt with the license. They are hardly the first company to pick up on split screen as an option, not even first one to do so with the Dragon Ball license.

Artdink could do it for this.

    • Pinwheel

This would’ve been my first DBZ game in years if it weren’t for the lack of offline multiplayer. That’s the biggest fuck up here.

  • WolfDuo

Personaly, I think unless that really make the mechanics and fighting style of each transformation diffrent, then there isn’t really a pioint in seperating them, Or buying the dlc version.

Really hope they stepped it up a bit for these games.

  • JOELJO3L

Can I just say that I am tired of them rehashing the same game over and over!

Yes I understand the 4-8 player battles is new and I understand there are a few more characters added but I feel like, why buy this game when I know a “new” version with 3 additional options will be available a few months later.

I guess it kinda feels like they are using the sports game model where you come out with a new game yearly, if not faster. It kinda sucks tho cuz I love DBZ but I am not gonna buy this junk just to have to by another one next season.

    • subsamuel01

If you played the demo you would know that this game is a lot different than any past Dragonball games, whether its good change or bad change depends on the person playing.

      • JOELJO3L

I did play the demo. Not trying to argue. Just my two cents.

  • RagingTiger44

Really, the last thing they should even be doing is monetizing characters from a DBZ fighting game. I guess this game is going to skip certain parts of the story if Vegito (yes I used the American Spelling) is merely DLC. Transformations are separate characters? What a regression. What is this? Budokai Tenkaichi? I guess it’s like this because monetizing certain characters would be harder if they could transform. You either monetize the whole character or put them into the game. Either way, it’s quite off putting.

  • Paul Rodriguez

I seriously hate DLC. Companies are always trying to nickel and dime us. $60 for a title plus what used to come already on a game disc. Lovely. What was once unlockables are now things we have to pay for. I miss the good old days of playing a game and trying to get all the secret characters, stages, items, weapons, etc. I would never pay for DLC no matter what the cost. The only DLC I have are the ones that are free.

  • Lloyd Christmas

Is it Super Vegeto or Vegeta? BIIIG difference there Siliconera.

  • Spider-Man

It’s Super Vegito, not Vegeta. Any news on how we’ll get the DLC in NA for Vita? Since it’s digital only.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

The same way you get all the other DLCs for digital games? From the PSN. Even if it’s preorder, several games come with such DLCs providing you get them on the launch window. Ie: Atelier Totori+, Atelier Meruru+, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2+, etc~.

      • JonathanisPrimus

You’d think that, but Namco Bandai America has decided that Vita owners aren’t deserving of that content: https://twitter.com/namcogames/status/421421666845986816

Which is all kinds of confusing given we have confirmation of Sage Naruto, and SS Bardock/Vegetto in other regions for Vita.

      • Spider-Man

God dammit, I’m so angry right now.
