Looks like a lovely, ambitious game and it would have been best if FF13 had this level of fidelity and not just visual prettiness and extreme linearity of the first game. Plot and storytelling weirdness aside, they really did an amazing job with the visuals and style. Gameplay wise it was pretty solid as well, with some of the tougher bosses being a pretty good, strategic test. They say even trash mobs can be tough in this game if you are careless. I hope it’s true. Would be a great game to pass the lulls of early 2014 by. Again, it’s not a perfect series but it’s been a great ride.

Its because FF13 had the problems it did that there FF13-3 exists.

I mean Novous Crystals – or whatever – were suppose to be two other games when 13 “the micro-series” was originally announced. It was likely the focus on the visuals that we got what we got.

And that Square has never really admitted that it was the mess that it was, other instances like 3rd Birthday and All the Bravest, the first FF14, is what’s ruined their credibility with me.

      • LightningFarron19

Dude. FF13 was suppose to be a stand alone game initially, It was not until 6-8 months after the initial game’s release that is when the company started thinking about sequels.

        • Godmars

Not thinking, developing. They were publicly talking about something they had been planning to do months before, before FF13 was even released. Changing the scope of the planned “trilogy” from being on the same world yet thousands of year apart to two direct sequels to the exact same characters and story. still thousands of years apart.

    • Kaetsu

I’m pretty sure the game is open world so it shouldn’t be as linear as 13 and 13-2 but whether it is or not i still want it.

      • Kumiko Akimoto

I think he meant plot wise

  • Saphiren

I want a making of like this in FFXV/Kingdom Hearts 3. Square plz!

    About the game: CAN’T WAIT!

    • Im-mortal

lol, are you sure? it would be a TV series, and take 8 season to complete :v

  • revenent hell

I remember when they would have short tidbits on the making of for past final fantasy games. I used to genuinely be impressed and curious to know how they went about things…. Even for the animated movies.
For this series I just want it over with. While I think Lightning returns will probably be the better of the XIII-3 games its not that hard to improve upon shit and I am really ready to start playing good Final Fantasy games again…… Though god knows how long that could take in to coming to be at this point

I keep forgetting I downloaded this Demo.

My desinterest for a FF now days is so low it hurts.

    • EinMugenTenshin

I feel with you. But dude, try the demo. I hated FF 13 with a passion and denied 13-2 as a result. But this, this is something completely different when it comes to the combat system (and more). Seriously, it is much closer to the combat of the Tales series, though with a lot of elements of the old FF series.

That demo made me order it, and I for some reason thinks it won’t be something I regret.

    • dam4rus

You really should try the demo. I was skeptical after the mediocrity of FF13 and the low quality of 13-2, but this game is actually good (the battle system and customization at least). It plays like, the E3 trailer from 2006, which was awesome.

    • Tinye

Definitely try it, it’s a vast improvement to xiii-2 – although I enjoyed xiii a lot, lightning returns has a superior battle system and I love lightning so the absolute focus on her gives me the bone chills

  • Raspberry

Nice video! Enjoyed XIII, XIII-2 and can’t wait to play the LR! Might do a XIII games marathon after finishing up LR.

    • Tinye

Ya I just beat XIII and I pretty much want to play through it again. Unfortunately I had trouble with XIII-2 – it’s something I’ll finish later on but right now LR is my focus.

      • Aoshi00

The only thing I had trouble with 13-2 is i’m missing the dang casino achievement, just one short of 1000 :(..

I imported LR but haven’t played too much yet, I think I might want to play the eng ver first.. Loved the demo s voice acting, but I preordered together with FFX HD so would need to wait a month.. still need to finish FFX HD and Drakengard 3 first…

  • Masa

great looking gameplay cant save this game from its awful plot and terrible characters.

    • Terrible Characters
      Terrible Plot

2 things that are completely Subjective? Lol right…

  • No wonder FFXV hasn’t come out yet. Nomura has to fix every single pixel he found wrong.

    • Tinye

It’s the Passion not the minute detail that’s the focus. I don’t know about you but that’s who I want creating my games, passionate people.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

I’m so proud of you square, now when you make your next main franchise game get it right the first time or at least look like you are trying with your main series.
