Monster Hunter Frontier GG’s New Tonfa Weapon Sure Looks Stylish

By Eugene . February 14, 2014 . 4:20pm

One of the more pertinent updates to Monster Hunter Frontier G when it makes the transition to Monster Hunter GG is the introduction of an all-new weapon called the Senryuu Kon.

While it looks like a tonfa at first glance, the cool factor shoots up when the weapon begins to actively switch lengths and forms while players are utilizing it in a fight. When in action, its changing lengths seem to add extra strength to your strikes when punching foes, while still keeping nimble movement possible. It’s also capable of both attack and defense due to its size.

There also appears to be a move that lets players vault into a jump attack by using the Senryuu Kon to smash into the ground for extra height. It does make you look like an incredibly badass kung fu master, which is certainly a plus in our book.

Monster Hunter G Genuine’s update is planned for the 23rd of April. Earlier this month Capcom told Siliconera there are “no announcements” made for a release of the game in the West, despite an internal interview which suggested the game might be coming outside Japan.

OH SNAP! I always imagined a sort of punching weapon being introduced into Monster Hunter, but I never thought it’d actually happen!

    • natchu96

And . . . did he just punch himself into the air?

Never thought rocket jumping with melee attacks was a thing.

I don’t see VITA as one of the console (or handheld for this matter) being released for this game in the trailer… I wonder why the tag?

  • JonathanisPrimus

Did Capcom cancel the Vita version of Frontier G? They haven’t talked about it since TGS.

  • 하세요

Interesting. Guess they couldn’t let MH4 get all the new weapon fun.

    • Gideon de Groodt

MH4 has the new Axe/Sword/Shield thing and the Bug Staff.

What I would like, is all the different moves they’ve got for the weapons in MHF. Like the spinning Counter for the Greatsword.

      • Namuro

Yeah…those moves are really cool. I really want to try some of those moves like the sliding slash for the Sword and Shield (and I don’t even use Sword and Shields, normally!). Though I’m pretty sure that you have to BUY these moves via microtransaction… Which likely include stuff like extra long Lances and Gunlances that shoot a friggin’ laser beam as well.

Welp, hardcore fans probably wouldn’t mind (since I’ve seen loads of people using those nifty weapons and nice moves on Nico Nico), given the chance, I’d probably buy them too…

  • ronin4life

I think the localization comment was just an example… I can’t see this doing well outside Japan with a subscription based model.

    • Anewme…Again

And i heard this game was really grindy, so i think that lower even more the chance of this game doing well in the west.

    • Joshua Myers

Meh i would still buy it and play it i really dont care for the sub i played WoW for a long ass time

    • 하세요

I’m a huge MH fan and even I’d pass on this. I’ve heard nothing but negative things about it.

Only thing I’d like to do is fight all the monsters I never got a chance to, but by the sounds of it, I’m not missing anything.

  • Guest

Hey, those kinda look like the weapons fro To…….hmmmmmm, well, they look really good. Hope we seem them in a handheld MH

  • Namuro

    Sweet mother of…

You can JUMP with those things!? CAPCOM, you’ve gotta put the tonfas in 4G/4U, seriously! I NEED this weapon!!

The melee also looks seriously cool, almost like boxing, mixing with Kung Fu. This should please those who complain about the lack of fist-like weapons in the game as well.

Off topic, but did someone say tonfa?

  • Agreed

  • Kazekage Gaara

This game looks so half-assed imo.MH4 looks so much better…..

    • Gideon de Groodt

      C’mon people, it’s His Opinion.

But I guess it IS the internet, so personal opinions apparently mean that any statement here applies to everyone.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

No its a Vita game so Vita bot is keyboard warrioring

    • J_Joestar

well it is still pretty much a heavily enhanced MH2 so you can’t expect that much from it.

  • DRIG

Tonfas is my favorite type of weapon, PLEASE BRING IT HERE CAPCOM!

  • J_Joestar

It would be cool if they brought it in 4G/U, but then it would probably be unfair to the Frontier players since they probably wouldn’t be getting CA/IS in return.
