New Video Shows What Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Is Like On All Four Consoles

By Spencer . February 18, 2014 . 11:12pm

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a cross-gen game with versions on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Even between next gen consoles there are differences too. The PS4 release runs at 60fps and in 1080p. The Xbox One version is also at 60fps, but the graphic output is at 720p. Both current gen consoles run Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes in 720p at 30fps.

What differences did you notice between platforms in the video?

Remember guys YouTube can only display 30fps so if the frame rate between the PS4 and XB1 looks minor its because of that.

    • sunK1D

That’s why they reduce the speed by 25-50%. You can clearly see the 60fps diff when they slow down the motion.

  • fool

You’ll have to download, not stream, the video from GameTrailers if you want to see the 60 fps difference. There’s a link in the video description.

      Thanks for the link, man!

    wow
    now thats next gen

I find the current gen PS3 and X360 versions perfectly playable.

Nowhere near the jump it was from PS1 to PS2. Compare MGS1 to MGS2.

This is all a bit meh to me.

    • TrueDefault

Understandable. Consoles are still new, it’d take a while for developers to get used to them.

I’m still waiting for a jump in the same vein of the SNES → PS1→PS2. but i don’t see this happening again

      • http://www.google.com/ LuckRequired

You’re right, we’ve reached a visual plateau. Shame.
I can understand why Carmack left id and joined Oculus, if we can’t go any higher, add another dimension.

Many designers in the last 3 or 4 years have tried multiple times over to tell the people that the evolution of graphics technology is bound to slow down while research costs rises up on an inverse relationship. Had you been aware of this, you wouldn’t have felt so disappointed. As a cross generational affaire, Ground Zeroes does exactly what it’s supposed to do and scales up to the next gen just as one should expect: the differences you see (or don’t see) in the video only proves that the Fox Engine is a formidable piece of adaptive technology, able to offer a consistent look over platforms with vastly different horsepower.

This is the way Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are being engineered, and an essential premise for any debate about these games. We’re not talking The Division or The Order: 1886 here, both games developed exclusively for the new consoles that actually offers a leap over anything the last generation could offer from a visual standpoint

  • UUDDLRLR BASTART

Wow, absolutely earth shattering. I need to run out right now, right this second, and throw some money after the next gen.

Is what I would say, but I would be lying of course. Without the benefit of side by side comparison videos and labels I couldn’t tell which was which.

    • DanielGearSolid

Depends on what you watched it on…
Hard to see the difference on a smartphonephone…
      Or smaller monitor
And then theres the youtube factor

I downloaded the 1080p 60fps vid from gametrailers, and played it back on the tv I actually game on… Easy to see the difference

    • MrRobbyM

Were you watching at 360p on a smartphone without your glasses on? The differences are quite clear. Better textures, lighting and framerate on the PS4/X1 versions but the PS4 version seems to look a bit better.

It’s really, really easy to see the environmental differences between current and next gen…

  • CozyAndWarm

Every console but Wii U, huh. I wonder what beef Konami/Kojima have with Nintendo, after Sakurai put so much love into Snake and MGS in Smash Bros Brawl

    • MrRobbyM

Another console to port it to = more money to make. The Wii U is doing poorly, MGS won’t save it and most of the Wii U’s audience is children. Just doesn’t make sense.

  • Nhazul

I plan on eventually getting both PS4 and Xbox One, when better games are out and the price is a bit better. You can clearly tell PS4 has a pretty good edge in the graphics department though. Sweet looking game.

  • Jerry Hu

    PS4 is the best!

  • Chee Yang

    Best comparison video ever!!!!

Serious! I like the effort they put in. Especially with the frame comparison.

    PS4 > PS3
    XBOX 360 > XBOX One

Thanks to that video, I now know that there really isn’t that much incentive into upgrading for the XBone. Looks like the 360 is a keeper for the next few years. On the other hand, the PS4 is the better Next Gen choice, hands down!
