Ubisoft plans on bringing the JRPG inspired Child of Light to Japan and Europe’s deluxe edition bundle too. The package includes a code to download Child of Light for PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 (the game support Cross Buy), a poster with an illustration from Yoshitaka Amano, a 24 page art book, and bonus downloadable content for 1,990 yen.

Child of Light comes out in Japan on May 1. The game will also be released for Wii U and Xbox 360.

I saw gameplay vids on this one. All-in-all, I like it. The music, the art, everything. One day I hope to play it.

    Wii U and Xbox360? Gah

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Uses the gamepad for co-pp

  • Fox

    It’s not “JRPG inspired”–its a JRPG.

    • Scipio

      It’s not made in Japan.

    • Crevox

      It wasn’t made in Japan.

    • 하세요

      FRPG yo. French RPG.

      • Reveirg

It’s not made in France either. >_>

        • GDI

          It’s a Grandia-inspired Canadian RPG

          • David García Abril

            So… CRPG?

But PC gamers used to refer to JRPG as that (Console RPG)…

So… we’ve come full circle to JRPG? lol

Now seriously, this is a JRPG that just happens to be made by westerners. Pretty much like “Dragon’s Dogma” being a WRPG made by Japanese.

          • Firekitty

I agree…while the ‘J’ and ‘W’s technically indicate location, the terms have evolved to mean particular styles of game.

I don’t get why that bothers people.

          • Fox

No, it was always a stylistic distinction. It’s just that there used to be far fewer instances of Japanese developers making WRPG, or vice versa.

And it bothers people because of, you know, the bigotry. Particularly in the post-Microsoft era where anti-Japanese bigotry is so prevalent/popular.

      Quebec RPG.

    • Fox

The JRPG/WRPG distinction is stylistic. It has nothing to do with the nationality of the developers–if it were, it’d be the most bigoted genre distinction outside of black fiction.

      • Shane Guidaboni

        This guy gets it.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

No not really. This is about European fairy tales. That isnt a bloody JRPG just because it has turn based combat

  • zferolie

    So…. where’s the American deluxe?

    • enl100

Ubisoft never does anything cool for America….ever….

      • almostautumn

At least they release games though. Level-5 North America, on the other hand, are just trolls. I envision they sit in their offices and just scroll through American facebook pages and say super-nasty-like, “Gaijin!” at each one.

    • almostautumn

Ubisoft is French— so, like the rest of the world, they hate Americans for being dicks all of the time :P

  • “JRPG Inspired”
This is everything but an RPG

    • KingGunblader

Have you seen the trailer? Turn-based combat, stat-building… seems like an RPG to me.

My butt is officially hurtin’. I want that poster!

  • Was Amano involved in Child of Light?

    • neocatzon

Digging old news, aside from poster illustration he made several concept arts.

  • KingGunblader

I’m okay with missing out the on the physical goodies, but can we at least get the DLC as a pre-order bonus or something?

    • fearlubu

You’re okay with missing out on that delicious art book and poster? For shame.

  • Is this coming to America?

  • Good thing this Deluxe thing isn’t too spectacular otherwise I would import the European version.

  • easter

Would get this on Vita, I can’t stand Uplay for PC.
