Samurai Jam: Bakumatsu Rock From The Makers Of Senran Kagura Is Likely Being Localized

By Spencer . April 9, 2014 . 2:17am

Marvelous AQL, the studio behind Senran Kagura and Arc Rise Fantasia, got into the music game gig with Bakumatsu Rock. The game takes place in feudal Japan with a rock and roll twist.

The Tokugawa Shogunate has been brainwashing people using the Heaven’s Song, but freedom fighters led by a rocker version of Sakamoto Ryoma are fighting back with music. Bakumatsu Rock came out for PSP in Japan back in February and we think there is a really good chance it will head to the West.

Marvelous AQL filed a trademark for Samurai Jam: Bakumatsu Rock in the USA. While there is an anime in the works, the trademark was specifically for video games. We don’t think Marvelous AQL would make an English name for the PSP rhythm game out of the blue, so we’re expecting it to be localized. Perhaps, Xseed will handle it?

Pretty boys and HOT BLOOD. Oh yes. Localize this now!

  • Renaldi Saputra

if it’s by Marvelous, then it’s exactly XSeed
never expect that PSP game still getting localized

    • JonathanisPrimus

“if it’s by Marvelous, then it’s exactly XSeed”

Not really. Half Minute Hero 2 was ported to PC, and localized by Marvelous USA (not XSEED).

      • Renaldi Saputra

ah yes, but most of them were done by XSeed

  • Jesse

Well, if it happens, that’ll be pretty surprising. =O

  • klkAlexar

Last year people guessed XSeed was planning on localizing English Detective Mysteria. Iit’s kinda hard to believe that they would localize that game and this one since they feel so similar (to a certain extent).

    • Has there been any news on that English Detective Mysteria? That was a rumor that definitely piqued my interest, but I haven’t heard anything in a while.

  • urbanscholar

    mmm….I’d buy this!

  • Aristides

O_o seriously? (I’m all for it BTW)

  • fairysun

The problem is who will buy it?
I think most people outside Japan have left PSP because the lack of games in a long period of time.

    • I’m assuming it will be on the PSN, accessible with Vita? That’s been the case with other late PSP releases the last couple years.

At any rate, this looks like it will be a fun game? Or at least an amusing one. :>

    • I will!

    • Ladius

It will still be playable on Vita, and considering XSEED isn’t big on physical releases for extremely niche games they would probably avoid an UMD edition.

    • DyLaN

Ppl did bought the PSP Hakuoki, Fate/Extra and Sweet Fuse so yes, there are ppl who will buy it.

  • Omg! Omg! Day one buy for me! I was actually looking to import this one now I’ll hold off and see what happens. Where do I toss money?

  • mockturtle

I remember saying way, way back when this was first announced that I really wanted it, even though there was no hope of a localization. Glad that I was proven wrong!

And on the off chance I’m magic, I need to go make a list of all the other games with no hope of localization that I’d like to see in the west. Brb.

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha oh man. I am so looking forward to the Gintama parody of this, you KNOW they won’t be able to ignore that shirt-exploding action.

Also hell yes I’d like to play this, SHIRTS EXPLODING WITH THE POWER OF ROCK is always relevant to my interests.

  • Slickyslacker

Oh yeah, this showed up on my radar a while ago.

I couldn’t pass on this, if it happens.

  • Not even kidding, was playing this last night on an emulator. It was hilarious but I loved it. Don’t expect it to come over but an anime would be cool.

  • Thelastgunstar

I…don’t know why, but I really want this game.

  • celery

I don’t want to get my hopes up but if this does get localized I would be so very happy!!

  • Firekitty

Gah, so many of my weaknesses in one game >.<

I'm going to buy this and then be depressed because I suck at rhythm games.

  • VeniVidiVici

FINALLY a game where hot male characters have their clothing rip off whilst doing sexy poses. My kinda game~

  • Hours Left

    This pleases me greatly.
