Bridget From Guilty Gear Pops Up In Sega’s MOBA Game

By Spencer . April 21, 2014 . 12:35am

In Japan, Sega is the publisher of Chaos Online and their version of the game has a few extra characters. We’ve seen cameos before like Selvaria Bles from Valkyria Chronicles, Jin Kisaragi from BlazBlue, and Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear.

Chaos Heroes Online is getting another Guilty Gear guest – Bridget. S/he will be a playable character on April 24, 4Gamer reports. Bridget brings Roger the mechanical bear with him/her as a weapon.

…………………… is the writer of this article uninformed? Bridget is male, born one AND identifies as one. It takes 10 seconds to read about his back story and plot and it lays it out quite plainly. :

    • Shady Shariest

Newcomer to the internet. Nobody has yet tried to trap-prank…

      • RajaNaga

        1) trap is an offensive word, and 2) If someone’s going to post an article about a character, they should do the minute or two of research required to actually get their gender right. I realize some characters cause confusion or are unclear, but in Bridget’s case the facts are laid out clearly.

        • Shady Shariest

It is? Wellp. I feel like a bad person now´:x

          • RajaNaga

Don’t! I didn’t meant to jump. Just…… it is kind of not the best word to throw around, it can really hurt someone (especially someone who is trans).

          • vileBrenman

I dunno calling someone a trap means they look attractive but are actually a gender that the person that finds them attractive isn’t normally attracted to. Doesn’t that just mean they surpass the gender line with beauty/ handsomeness

          • Shady Shariest

Exactly! This is 100% what Bridget is about :3

          • Malakym

That’s a good sentiment to have. Unfortunately, that ideal doesn’t quite work out as nicely in reality. The idea of ‘traps’ gains unfortunate implications when people wind up getting hurt (or worse) because other people, insecure about the idea of finding them attractive, lash out over it. Look up gay- or trans-panic defense and you’ll see how some people might get uncomfortable with the idea of people that don’t conform to everyday gender identities being called ‘traps’. It has led to some rather horrific crimes being perpetrated against people.

          • vileBrenman

Yeah you have a point. I guess a trans-phobic or homo-phobic would hate on a “trap”. But yeah in my eyes if they are hot they are hot no matter the gender. Beautiful things are beautiful I’d say.

          • RajaNaga

Thank you! Nice to see people actually sticking up for that idea when most of the internet still thinks “lol it’s a trap!!” is really funny. People get /murdered/ over this stuff, it really isn’t funny.

          • Malakym

Likewise. I understand that both sides have some pretty extreme people, but the constant calls of ‘SJW’ and assumptions about tumblr are starting to sound like code for ‘this problem affects neither me nor anyone I care about so please stop making a big deal out of it’. See also: white knight. It’s okay to be ignorant of an issue, less to be willfully so.

        • Thatguy

Trap is offensive word? Since when?
Because this word, from beginning, means *boy who wears female clothes* on Internet.

          • RajaNaga

And everything on the internet is void from being offensive? Implying someone is a “trap” because surprise! they are the opposite gender is not very respectful of people’s genders,

          • Kyriana

Because it implies that whoever the label is applied to is somehow ‘deceiving’ people, just by existing. It is also used to attempt to invalidate or delegitimize their identities.

And like Malakym said, this line of thinking has lead to horrible crimes at the hands of very evil and insecure individuals. Including murder.

Even if someone isn’t trying to say it in a derogatory fashion, the word is steeped in bigotry and violence.

          • Thatguy

Because it implies that whoever the label is applied to is somehow ‘deceiving’ people, just by existing.

Nope, it implies that whoever the label is applied to is somehow ‘deceiving’ people, by wearing female clothes and looking like a female. And that’s why word *trap* formed.

It’s not offensive word. It’s offensive to people, who want that word to be offensive.

Also, about murder – people killed other people for less. If person. who have some problems with head (i hope, you didn’t find that offensive, because some people do) or better – drunk, wanted to pick girl, succesfully picked girl, but after… well he realised that he picked guy many things can happen. Even death. What do you need to prevent that?

          • Kyriana

I hate to say it, but this post embodies the very elements of what is offensive about the term.

First, you didn’t disagree with the fact that “trap” implies deception, which is a serious problem for that word in and of itself; trans and gender variant people are not out to deceive anyone.

And secondly, the post goes on to espouse and defend the very same viewpoints that are at the root of the malignant and soon-to-be-illegal (in some jurisdictions), trans panic defense.

A guy who picked up a trans girl, and then found out she was a trans girl, picked up a girl, not a guy. And regardless of that; violence, let alone murder, is completely indefensible in that context.

Even if people murder for stupid reasons, it doesn’t excuse any other murder, or any of the mindsets behind them. Nor does it excuse transphobia.

        • Go2hell66

          offensive to who?

        • _buchu

Save it for Tumblr, you’re not going to impress anybody here with your gender awareness.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

They are right though there’s no reason for the s/he in the article since it’s pretty obvious that he’s a boy and he doesn’t identify as anything other then that

          • RajaNaga

I’m not the hugest advocate of a lot of tumblr attitudes, myself. Gender awareness is actually important, nevermind how shitty some tumblr users act toward other people.

        • Zero_Destiny

Alright, I’m posting this here, but it’s in reply to everyone. Let’s all end this discussion now. It’s off-topic and isn’t getting anything accomplished.

Issues on sexual identity are important and have their place, but it’s pretty far ‘n large an exaggeration to be doing this here. I understand the frustration that even certain pronouns may bring up, but no harm was ever intended by the writer, and any hurtful feelings I will personally apologize for. I’m sorry if it has offended anyone.

However, we are done here, and we will not be doing this again. Understood. Heated arguments have no place in the boards. Let’s all stay on topic, and remember the rules. Thanks guys.

          • rebecasunao

This may be nitpicking but it’s “gender identity” and not sexual.
But yeah, there’s no point in arguing with people who think it’s fair to use “trap” in the first place. I’m happy to see some people here have common sense and call out bullshit when they see it, though.
