Microsoft Will Let Project Spark Creators Make Conker Games

By Ishaan . June 9, 2014 . 10:21am

Project Spark, Microsoft’s game creation suite for for Xbox One, will allow creators to make games using Conker from Rare’s Conker series of games.

A trailer for the suite was shown off at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this morning, and Microsoft’s Major Nelson confirmed that the Conker pack will be released this fall.

Here I was thinking it was about an actual Conker game.

    • Armane

I’m glad it isn’t. Pretty sure Chris Seavor wouldn’t come back; probably what sparked this in the first place.

  • Let.

Like how we let Banjo…eh nevermind.

  • DesmaX

    y u do dis, Microsoft?

    You’re tearing me apart

  • Forget Conker, where’s Berri? Blonde Berri, Brunette Berri, whichever? At least Conker got two full games (three if you count the BFD remake) to romp around in; Berri in all her incarnations has been consistently crapped upon.

    • zferolie

      Berrri? Who was that again?

      • …case in point. -_-;

        • zferolie

… I am serious. I may know who she is but I am pulling a blank. Please tell me

          • Conker’s girlfriend? Damsel in distress in Pocket Tales, killed at the end of BFD? The universe has got it in for her man. ^_^;

          • zferolie

oh her. I had a feeling you meant her but wasn’t sure. I assume they will have her model in the game, along with other staples.

As for the damsel part, sadly they all get screwed over

  • Sarah Veg

Just assets, no game? I’m conflicted between feeling hopeful and heartbroken.

  • Slickyslacker

Live and Reloaded wasn’t nearly as bad as Nuts and Bolts.

Now that this has happened, though, Conker has yet another opportunity to be driven into the ground!

    • Chersea

It’d be driven to the ground by its own fans, in that case and, well, most popular series have bad fan games. I don’t think it would affect the Conker series much.

      • Christopher Nunes

What happened to the Conker series per say? I only know of the Conker’s Bad Fur Day and the Conker: Live and Reloaded which was Bad Fur Day but with a Multiplayer added in… and I recall the creators went that way with Conker as they didn’t want him to be a copy-n-paste cutesy furry animal character and series like Donkey or something similar a bit.

I’m really aware of those two games and what did the fans do to Conker? I remember him being in Diddy King Racing first and was shocked to see him in his own game but rated M when I was a kid and wonder why was that but doesn’t not to pick it up due to the rating at that time, when game rental stores like Knapp Video were around.

        • Chip

They rejected it because it was overtly censored, defeating the whole point of the game in the first place.

          • Christopher Nunes

After Conker: Live and Reloaded? Sheesh… they couldn’t done something different while keeping the “bad squirrel” attitude in the series?

It was… a very different game during that period I’ll admit.

          • Chip

Microsoft wanted to expand the potential userbase, since HD or not it was still an old game. They probably also wanted to avoid the same fiasco Nintendo originally faced from negligent parents buying the game for kids without realizing the content.

It’d probably be even worse now, since this newest batch of parents are more careless than ever Uncle TV and Aunt Console.

  • ConkerBFD

  • Nope. Conker is officially dead to me now. Even if they make a new game, that design and voice has ruined it. There’s no way they can redeem him now imo.

    • doubleO7

Pretty much the same design as Reloaded, but a little less fuzzy looking and with his classic blue zipper shirt.

And what’s wrong with the voice? A Project Spark dev confirmed on Twitter that Chris Seavor has returned to voice Conker in Spark.

      • Really? Because Reloaded’s Conker looked better than that puppet. And it honestly sounded like someone else to me…well, at least they got the original guy to voice him.

  • doubleO7

As much as I love Conker, he seems like an odd fit for the family-friendly Project Spark. You’d think Banjo and Kazooie would’ve been better choices, but maybe we’ll see more Rareware DLC for Spark if Conker is well-received.

  • Robert Kupper

There was active booing in the stands for this if gamespot’s commentators are to be believed. What a weak move.
