Watch The Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 Demo

By Ishaan . June 19, 2014 . 5:15am

Just as they said earlier in the week, Kojima Productions have streamed their E3 gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as part of their “Kojima Station” web series that provides a look into the studio’s inner workings.

The episode—which you can watch above—is about 2 hours in length. The gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid V begins just after the 50-minute mark.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Don’t like that cigar thing for passing time away, i mean he stands there and smokes for 12 hours……………..its so dumb!

Seeing as its an open world game it would be so much better if you could pitch a small one man tent while making sure its in a hard to be seen place as to not get spotted.

    • All Fiction

From the description of it, it seems to slow his perception of time and his metabolism, meaning Big Boss actually feels like only a few seconds passed. It sounds strange but it is more realistic than him having a tent in his inexistant backpack.
Moreover, I guess you can use it only in certain calm places.

      • God

I don’t know, Snake and Big Boss are quite the smokers, it wouldn’t surprise me for him to smoke 12 hours straight.

    • shuyai

its not really dumb when real Sniper are may be required to camp weeks on the same spot with minimum movement, compare to that smoking a cigar and waiting for 12 hour is piece of cake

    • Limbless

I find it strange that you complain about that and not about none of the enemy soldiers noticing their screaming comrades flying into the sky around them.

      • God

That always bothered me about the Fulton… HOW THE FUCK DON’T THEY SEE IT?!

        • neocatzon

There’s a bug in universe, fix it god.

    • César H. Sandoval

You clearly don’t have close smoker friends, 12 hours is nothing! LOL

  • JMaster3000

Does it have Real Time Horse pooping in it?

    • shuyai

yes but the poop physic and graphic is kinda shit

      • César H. Sandoval

        BAH DUMM TSHHH

  • Jadfish

These kinds of gameplay trailers are the best. They show a lot of gameplay, AND they show a master playing. Just looking at all the cool stuff he can do makes you want to practice and get good yourself.

    • Learii

      lol ya

  • xXDGFXx

    I can fulton… a goat?

    • César H. Sandoval

Yes, because you’re already a demon.

Everything can be Fulton’d. The new age of Fulton S.T.A.R.S. is about to begin!

  • Prinnydoom

So far….kojima has not failed to deliver. Everything is looking awesome.

  • Juliano C

    yawn

  • British_Otaku

Most of the iDroid GPS esque narration felt excessive (better be able to turn them off) and I think the mechanics and technology make Big Boss too powerful, but that aside the game looks outstanding, you can fulton sheep and interact with them later. The technology disparity between this game and previous ones is egregious though.

You must know that his growing organization became very high-tech growing up, as shown in all the old games. Especially after Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Island were out of the equation, because everyone else who took over their stuff really didn’t took anything over, because Ocelot was a ruseman till the end, always trying to continue what Big Boss started in his stead. Then again, that was also a combination of NANOMACHINES, MEEMS and Liquid’s Evil Dead-esque Arm that was possessing Ocelot post-MGS1.

I hope all of these upcoming games rewrite everything Solid Snake, so that the series can have a very fresh start going forward.

      • British_Otaku

I should have made it clear that I haven’t really played an MGS game through properly (curse my first PS3 for breaking down and VC+Oblivion being too attractive, MGS:Twin Snakes for being expensive and MGS3 for being hard to find at a good price for a Japanese 3DS and MGR for um I don’t have an excuse), though you may have guessed that from my first post. :P

I have a lot of passive knowledge and have been spoilt rotten, but I’ll just answer that “If it makes sense within the universe, I suppose that is all good as for the technology.”

    • Shippoyasha

I kind of like it, considering we are supposed to go into the black ops technology, not abiding by some real world standard to things. Gives Big Boss a bit of a James Bond feel. And yeah, I hear a lot of helpful features can be toggled.

      • British_Otaku

It seems a little unhinged to me even for those standards, when technology seems to be more awesome and helpful for a character in the same universe in the decades prior in the story, I consider it to be the Arkham Origins effect. >_>

I do know that a lot of things can be toggled off, so the first things I’ll have off are the slow motion alert things, iDroid banter and marking mechanic. 3rd person awareness feels like enough for me, especially if Big Boss can kidnap everything.

    • AndyLC

It still fits though, the 70′s and 80′s had scifi stuff like the 6million dollar man and various James Bond gadgets.

MGS3 is political loyalties and unveils a proto-metal gear
      MGS:PW unveils bipedal metal gears
MGSV has hand held hardware technology n’ likely more gears
      MGS1 focuses on nanomachines
      MGS2 is about the internet
MGS4 is the culmination of everything else

      • darke

They also improved their Cutscene Technology throughout the series as well. :P

  • popo123

The graphics aren’t very impressive and looks like an HD ps3 game at most right now. So I hope they improve more on that. Visuals aside, it looks a LOT of fun.

    • Ninastars

Considering it runs in 1080p 60fps unlike a lot of new games coming out on PS4 and the Xbone I’d say the graphics are perfectly fine. I’d rather have them make the game perform as well as possible rather than push the graphics to the point it hinders it.

      • popo123

Yes, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t improve on it. If they can, then they should.

    • Shippoyasha

Remember, Youtube is limited to 30fps. They simply can’t depict the game in its full glory.

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

WOW! That actually looks really fun. The scope of the places you explore and the many ways you can do it is just amazing, I have no idea why Kojima envies GTA V when his game is likely to be just as good.

I keep telling myself that I’ll wait until Final Fantasy XV is released but we all know how bad Square-Enix is when we want some actual meaty information to make us excited, most other companies avert this and make more successful games more fast and consistent so I believe in Kojima.

      http://marcush108.wix.com/bimpygamenation#!final-fantasy-xv/cuvf

there you go. my information about xv. doing some research helps. not hard to come up with something similar

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

You’re not the first one to show me that (unfinished) article.

In all fairness, most of the information was gathered by us, the public, I never saw a video of Nomura or others speaking in great detail about the game, story, characters or showed a lengthy unedited gameplay.

        • goa ahsd

thats my website and i created it. The game is not complete, which is why SHinji said 2 weeks before E3 the pronominal reveal would come to other events LATER 2014. in all fairness no one i know of on Siliconera created any analyzing articles. all my info comes from what Noruma has presented. I dont need Noruma to spoon feed me entire levels with spoily walkthroughs unlike some ppl to figure out what the game really is like. And “peaking in great detail about the game, story, characters or showed a lengthy unedited gameplay.” yeah lets ignore all the 20 something interviews and dont analyze videos.

part of being a gamer is figuring out things. XV is is a very different type of jrpg let alone video game. gotta be careful for information dumping for many reasons. and its coming to an event later this year. when SE said it was coming to something it came. when they said no it didnt. so just wait.

would you rather have none complete footage and no release date? or an entire event dedicated to the game near completion and promotion, which shinji promised. e3 was not the proper time. so wait until the proper time comes. patience. dont always need to be fed like a baby with all the content beforehand. thats what hollywood does with movies now. i rather piece everything when the information is there. but that same information isnt super spoily like what they did for watchdogs.

plus you already know what the gameplay is.

  • Lazulis

Popping out of boxes like strippers and fultoning everything. GOTY

  • http://www.spaghetti.com Kaisenex

is it possible to take off the slowmo when you get caught?

    • British_Otaku

It could be switched off in the preview/demo/ripoff/previous game/taster (Ground Zeroes), so I have no doubt that it can be turned off here.

      • http://www.spaghetti.com Kaisenex

        thx…lmao demo….its so true tho :/

  • goa ahsd

the overworld is amazing because its immersion done well and the details of the environment are brought to life on a high level due to the hardware. playing it on ps4 xb1 makes a huge difference. smoother crisp in everything
