Don’t Kill Anyone Yet! Grim Fandango Will Also Be Remastered For PC

By Eugene . July 10, 2014 . 9:31am

Fans really, really, really hoped that when Tim Schafer announced a remastered version of Grim Fandango for PlayStation 4 and Vita, it would also hit PC. Well, it is.

Confirmed on Double Fine’s blog, while the game remains a Sony exclusive console-wise for the time being, it is also headed to PC, Mac and Linux.

Furthermore, all versions will launch on the same day, Double Fine says, so no one could possibly get spoiled by anyone else. I mean, really, we don’t know anything about this game! Cross my heart, hope to die.

As for other platforms… back in June, Schafer tweeted there would be news for other platforms “soon”. He could just have been referring to PC, but judging by past trends, you’ll see the game on a bunch of other consoles soon before long.

eh, is an exclusive really an exclusive if it’s on a pc?
I have no issue with this but the way it was shown in E3 n all

    • subsamuel01

It’s no longer a Sony exclusive, but its still considered a console exclusive.

      • John Diamond

it’s a bit late of a reply, but even a console exclusive doesn’t feel much like an exclusive to me. I consider the PC to be a Console in itself, a customisable console

    • Daniel

That was always a major sticking point for me with Microsoft that you could also play a good amount of their exclusives on PC

  • Universe

A PC game on PC? What a surprise!

  • SerChief

I’ve never had the chance to play this game; I’m very excited for this!

    • Shippoyasha

I am envious! I would love to experience it for the first time again.

  • KingGunblader

Hell. Yes. Thank you based Schafer. Buying on Mac Day 1.

  • Professor_Icepick

Finally. Score one for the good guys.

Sony Exclusives are the best kind.

  • Snorlaxation

    I just can’t wait. :)

Hopefully, we’ll see this game on GOG as well. It’s the most requested game on the GOG wishlist:

Oooh, so it will drop for PC at the same time then? I know someone who’s gonna be an extra happy camper about that. Looks like we’ll be breeding pidgeons on multiple formats soon…

  • triablos

I never heard of this game before E3, but I’m guessing it was pretty popular because the cheering in the E3 announcement was pretty loud.

  • Will get it on Vita.

    Much for that Sony exclusive…

    • darke

In terms of console exclusives, it’s a Sony one. Neither Sony nor MS seem to care if the game is released on the PC as well. Which, all things considered, is a pretty reasonable perspective since the PC isn’t really competing against them.

      • PreyMantis

With graphic whores out there, I wouldn’t remove the count of PC as a competition.

        • darke

I agree, but also I don’t think it matters in the long run.

They’re not after the graphics whores with the large disposable income since they’re rare. They’re after the 90% of the population who are lazy and ‘good enough’ is fine by them.

I mean, they haven’t had much of a problem with the fact the PC games are usually $10 cheaper then their console versions for years; or the fact the PC discount sales are usually much, much better then the console discount sales, and so forth.

Plus people are terrible at judging fixed vs long term costs; for example the average day-one PS3 owner would have spent less then a day-one 360 owner (even assuming they didn’t suffer a RRoD), over the life of their console due to the yearly XBox Live requirement to actually use most of the features of the hardware they bought.

So the fact that PC games are cheaper and get better discounts earlier means that they could buy a PC more expensive then a console, and yet still save cash in the long run.

tl;dr: People are lazy and are poor at managing long vs short term gains. Sony and MS exploit this fact so they don’t need to care about the PC competing because in practice it really isn’t.

If I may ask, is there some kind of statistic somewhere that counts how many PC (master race, if I may invoke that term) users have rigs more powerful than PS4 and Xbox One? Sure there are around 100 Million PC gamers out there but how many of them actually care about the latest and the greatest?

          • darke

Here’s the best raw data you can get.

Given 50% have a dualcore cpu or less, and only 40% have 8GB ram or more, I’d say at least 60% don’t have a PS4/XB1 comparable system.

You could probably sieve through the video card listing and strip out everything that’s either intel or older then 3 years and add the percentages up and you’d probably have a decent enough estimate as to who have sufficiently chunky graphics card.

Honestly the average PC gaming rig really isn’t that impressive. :P

Why do we call it Exclusives again?

    • Shady Shariest

CONSOLE exclusive. Don’t forget the console part :/

      • Armageddon

I thought it was a given?

        • Armageddon

You know what I learned from this?
NEVER BUY GAME EXCLUSIVES ON DAY 1 and being patient pays for itself.

  • Mimi

    why no ps3?
