Sega To Reveal Next Yakuza Game On August 24th

By Ishaan . August 4, 2014 . 9:00am

The next Yakuza game will be revealed on August 24th, Sega said today. The reveal will happen at 9:00 pm Japan time. You can visit a teaser site for the game here.

Details on the new game are scant, but we know it’s in development for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and that it isn’t a spin-off game like Yakuza: Dead Souls or Yakuza: Restoration.

At the reveal event, Sega will also reveal the winners of the auditions they’ve been conducting for the game.

The next Yakuza game the west will never get.

  • Lloyd Christmas

    So Yakuza 6?

  • Weeb

Okay let’s do this. Some of you whine for localization, the others whine that people are crying for localization over discussing the game. Then in the end nobody win except the people that know japanese.

    • 罪罰

We should all learn Japanese together.

      • otakumike

Ok, you start. Teach us, sensei!!

        • 罪罰

I’m not good enough to be your sensei, but here’s a good sensei:

          • Namuro

Good lord! That’s one scary thumbnail! That Namasensei might want to find a better picture if he wants to “attract” more viewers. LOL

          • 罪罰

He doesn’t care, he just wants you to learn. peach.

        • Altin

          ステーキは素敵(すてき)です

    • OneOkami

lol, sounds like a plan to me. :P

    • Max Leo

      edit: wrong post

  • Namuro

    Damn… I hate seeing Kazuma getting old…

    • Learii

I hate seeing Yakuza games never localized

      • Namuro

        You mean, NOT localized ANYMORE.

But yeah, I feel your pain. But at least you have the option of importing.

  • idrawrobots

I hope it’s Space Yakuza this time!

  • SupaPhly

I really hope they go all-out on this one, since the theme is “manly men” this time I can only anticipate

    • DividedSeraph

,…isn’t that all the Yakuzas? I’d be more intrigued by the ‘girly girl’ edition.

      • SupaPhly

That’s what I thought, but I can only imagine what they’re planning with that theme set lol

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

        Ryu Ga Gotoko Shoujo!

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

      Ryu Ga Gotoku Bara!

    • Jadfish

Wait then what on earth were the rest of the series about?

      … oh lord

  • Kalis Konig

So this series did not even do well enough in the west to warrant a digital only release? I really want Yakua 5 and the one set in the past. Have no idea why Sega decided to take a chance with Dead Souls.

    • SupaPhly

because the kind person who was in charge of convincing SEGA and bringing us these games in english left the company back in 2012, unfortunately :(

    • OneOkami

‘Cause it’s all about shooting and zombies. Can never go wrong with that in the west, right? :P

      • Jadfish

to be fair, that’s a pretty solid argument :-/

        • leingod

It is, although they failed to notice their Yakuza audience isn’t exactly the usual western “Pew Pew” audience.

Dead Souls isn’t a bad game per se, but it would’ve been much better with the regular martial arts instead of guns.

          • Jadfish

If the Yakuza audience in the west were enough, we would have Yakuza 5 now.
Dead Souls in the west were clearly a “test the waters” thing with a formula that sounds perfect for the market (on paper at least). If that couldn’t draw in a larger audience to make the series lucrative in the west, then what hope would Yakuza 5 have had

          • leingod

Oh well. At this state, I’d take even a digital-only release.

          • leingod

Oh well. At this state, I’d take even a digital-only release.

  • Basil

    Let’s cry together now …

    YAKUZA ON MAH VITA

  • gquain

    This must be Yakuza 5!
I just played the fourth installment a week ago, talk about luck.
This game series is just too good to be ignored

    • Yakuza 5 was already released 2 years ago. japan only though :/

    • Max Leo

      Talk about bad luck…..:(

  • Kei Kyoumoto

Perfect timing for my birthday. So stoked.

  • roockie112

Everytime I see stuff like this it feels like Sega is telling us Fck you West lol

    • ehtnah

No you’re wrong that more like “west what?”, maybe nobody tells them that this small thing around Japan is the rest of the world…..

I hate sega from the bottom of my heart for this (=yakuza 5, ishin, 1&2 HD, kensan, and this next one…..)…

  • Jadfish

Oh man oh man oh man I can’t wait for the next Yakuza game!
What do you guys think will happen to the four protagonists??
I hope Akiyama, Saejima and Tanimura are in it again. I liked how we weren’t stuck with Kiryu last time, so I hope they do so again for Yakuza 5!

    • Max Leo

Oh man oh man oh man I’ve got news for you…..

Yakuza 5 came out in Japan like 2 years ago and and shows no signs of ever coming out in the west,

Also another newer game called Yakuza Ishin came out after Yakuza 5 in Japan, and this article’s game is most likely Yakuza 6.

Where have you been? haha ;)

  • Jeremy Noble

I just want one and two HD to come out. Dont really wanna import ps2 games if i can avoid it.

  • TrueDefault

I hope Akiyama has a full length campaign this time! I think the developers loved that guy so they tried to put him in Y5 even if his role was easily replaceable. I wanna see Shinada again too! I really liked him!
