With Dragon Quest X already available on PC, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, and smartphones, fans recently asked producer Yosuke Saito during Square Enix’s latest livestream of the Dragon Quest X TV on Nico Nico if we might see it get a release on PlayStation 4. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

When asked about whether Square Enix have plans to release Dragon Quest X for PlayStation 4, Saito responded with “I really want to,” but further explained that those are just his personal opinions, and not related to his position as the producer of the game.

“Isn’t the Dragon Quest Metal Slime edition PlayStation 4 really awesome? I really want to release it!” exclaimed Saito during the livestream.

Considering the issues we saw on the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest X, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Square Enix give it a shot on the Sony console sometime in the future.

I would also love that game on the PS4 that way there is a good chance of it being localized.

    • HarakiriKami

PS4 doesnt improve its chance of being localized at all

    • TalesOfBS

      Please explain how.

    • FStubbs

PS4 lessens its chances of being localized. Square Enix already hates bringing them over. Sony would have no motivation, but Nintendo might do it to fill out their library like they did DQ6.

  • Adrian Duran

I really wonder if DQXI will go on a Nintendo console or a Sony console

    • Salvador Sandoval

My money is in a 3DS game followed by a HD port for both WiiU and PS4 the following year. Main DQ games always go for the higher install base.

      • Adrian Duran
        • Salvador Sandoval

Oh, in that case… yeah, it could go either way. Hopefully Wii U, since I’ll love to play it on the Gamepad.

          • Remlot

I’m betting on PS4 this time around

          • HarakiriKami

Depends on the sales really. PS4 is really lagging in that department. FF15 and KH3 are fine because they sell more in the west anyway but that isnt the case for Dragon quest

    • triablos

      My guess is PS4

    • antithesis

I say Sony if SE is consistent in their strategy. SE made Type-0 on PS4/XB only to boost sales and prep a bigger audience for Ffxv. Dragon Warriors will be serving a similar purpose.

      • Adrian Duran

during the PSP era most FF games came to that system, and DQ stuck to the DS

when FF was on the PS3, there where DQ games on Wii

      • HarakiriKami

By that logic the endless stream of DQ games on the 3DS = DQ 11 on 3DS

DQ Heroes is on the PS3 because the majority of the Musou buying audience is on the PS3. Japanese developers dont make multiplatform games aimed at the japanese market very often. Games are rarely ever in simultaneous development over there to begin with. Spike Chunsoft is the only one that bothers to do so. DQ Heroes is on PS4 because its on PS3. Persona 5 is in the same boat, as are the myriad of PS Vita to PS4 ports on the system.

    • HarakiriKami

      Probably both.

      3DS/WiiU/PS3/PS4

      Pick any combination of those

      • TalesOfBS

PS4 yes, Xbone probably, 3DS and PC maybe.
But Wii U? No, also they already have their mmo milking people there and having another DQ would just steal players from it. It is not a sales/install base issue, really.

The producer is a sony fanboy (just like the news writer, lol at that last sentence) and he is doing the same thing the SK producer did: he flaunted about making a SK game for the PS4 (despite the horrible sales in Japan). Of course something is already set.

    • Perro

I will buy whatever system it comes on, if it comes to the US at all.

  • Crevox

“Considering the issues we saw on the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest X, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Square Enix give it a shot on the Sony console sometime in the future.”

This comment… why would issues on the 3DS version have anything to do with wanting to do it on a Sony console? The reason it has any issues on 3DS is because it’s being streamed, which wouldn’t happen if (any) other console was natively rendering it. They already have it on the Wii and Wii U, so it wouldn’t be a new thing to do it on a Sony console.

    I just… don’t understand this comment…

    • Sato

There’s not much to it, buddy. They tried reaching out to a wider audience with the Nintendo 3DS, which didn’t go so well. Not sure whether the game will be remotely playable for it in the near future or not, but if they’re still looking to reach out beyond their current audience, then why not a Sony console?

      • Crevox

As far as I could tell, didn’t the game completely sell out on 3DS? They had to stop sales because of the unexpected server load, but it still sold very well, and would’ve sold even more.

        • Sato

The MMO market isn’t as much about making sales, but about retaining the audience. While it did sell quite decently (to very unfortunate fans,) I’m certain that a majority of them won’t keep up the subscription with the current issues.

          • Crevox

Do we even know if the issues are still ongoing? Do we even have any subscription data to make that statement?

          • Sato

Yep, I keep up with plenty of the DQX news, since I actually wanted to play it myself, but unfortunately, some of the problems kind of go beyond server issue.

I mean who knows, they might be able to make it better later on, but they’ll likely see a huge drop in subscribers from the 3DS side, unless they fix it soon.

          • HarakiriKami

You cant play it at all without a japanese ip address

    • CozyAndWarm

This. I’m not sure why server-side issues or a rushed release or whatever suddenly mean “might as well port to a Sony console” to this writer. It almost just sounds like port-begging to me.

  • Tonton Ramos

Just localize this and make DQX available on PS4, PC, 3DS, and WiiU don’t leave a platform behind!

  • Victor Wesker

It should not be online only game, cuz i hate online only games which cannot be played offline.

    • lolcatz6657

That would pretty much defeat the purpose of it being an MMO

    • Remlot

Well guys, there you have it. Victor hates online games so say goodbye to all your MMO’s

  • Shippoyasha

Really curious as to how the politics of this changes if the Wii U picks up or if it keeps languishing. Also, I wonder when the PS4 will pick up bigtime. It could be a repeat situation of Metal Gear Solid 5 being that big name, just like MGS4 was for PS3.

    • antithesis

Yeah, MGS is big in japan. So it’s definitely moving systems as well as Persona 5, KH3, and Ffxv. By then PS3 will slowly die down enough for PS4 to greatly outpace PS3 sales.

      • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Except MGS didn’t help PS4 because every got on PS3 in Japan

        • Jeremy Barnes

          MGS5 hasn’t been released yet..

          • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

            Ground Zeroes did

          • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

If you are talking MGS 5 full version.

    • HarakiriKami

      I dont know.

Its behind the dreamcast gamecube Wii U and the vita right in terms of pace.

  • shytende

“Dragon Quest X will come in absolutely every consoles in Japan, but will never be distributed in the West”.

    • Codi Schumacher

I hope you are wrong about that.

  • Codi Schumacher

I would love to see this localized on either a Sony or Nintendo console

  • CozyAndWarm

How about getting the game localized first, Square? Baby steps.

Also, as long as we’re mindlessly just requesting ports, how about Dragon Quest Heroes on Wii U?

    • HarakiriKami

Yes please. Will go nicely with hyrule warriors

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Don’t care at this point :/

  • TalesOfBS

Considering the issues we saw on the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest X, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Square Enix give it a shot on the Sony console sometime in the future.

Yeah, the “issues”, or in other words: the mass influx of players that even Square wasn’t expecting and killed their servers. How is that bad?

    • HarakiriKami

      sound and text as well.

Square cant be arsed to spend money and time on anything but the three engines they’ve burnt through with ZERO return. Rip In Pieces Crystal Tools and Luminous. ALL HEIL UE4!!

(Dont mind me and my criticisms of their frugality. Im just really peeved FF:Explorers doesnt have 3D Support)

  • do it and then localize please.

  • Learii

we love ps4 here so plz localize it if that happen

  • They should do it. At least then, if they don’t localize we can import…

    • Max

      It’s IP blocked.
Unless you have a very good (and expensive) VPN, you still won’t be able to play it.

      • Jeremy Barnes

actually, you can setup a vpn through amazon web services for free for a year…it’s like $8 a month after that

  • Max

There’s no point releasing it on the PS4 with the current install base when it won’t attract new people.
This isn’t just any game, it’s DQ, every DQ fan is already playing it one way or another.

    • Jeremy Barnes

      unless they’re in the US..
