During a recently held concert called the Lapis Dream Orchestra, which was held in Kyoto, they had pamphlets with a little interview with Nobuo Uematsu, who talked about his desire to create a new 2D RPG.

In the interview, Uematsu explains how he met up with his old pal, the Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, and reminisced together about how great Final Fantasy VI was, a title which Uematsu considers the one that features most of his favorite tracks.

They talked about how they wished they could’ve done more with the game, and also  about how gaming has trended towards a direction with more 3D graphics and CG animations, but they both feel that there’s still more they can do with 2D games.

Before they knew it, the conversation shifted to how they’d like to make another 2D game along with the developers who made Final Fantasy VI.

While it may seem like the two friends were just having a good time looking back at one of their favorite titles, it looks like Uematsu is pretty serious about wanting to make new 2D game, and has even pitched the idea to Square Enix.

At the end of the interview, he stated that he’d really like to have one more shot at making a game that could surpass Final Fantasy VI.
