J-Stars Victory Vs. is an arena fighting game that features characters from over 30 different Shonen Jump franchises, including NarutoOne PieceBleach, Rurouni Kenshin and Dragon Ball Z.

In addition to having a release on PlayStation 3 and Vita, J-Stars Victory VS+ will also release for PlayStation 4 in North America. It will also get a new “Arcade Mode” with one-on-one matches for its Western debut.

  • I honestly didn’t see it coming.

But hey, a new game for me to get for the PS4!

  • harmonyworld

After the two DS games, I didn’t think this would ever come to america!
    I know what I’m getting!

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Bamco, Digimon Cyber Sleuth next please….

  • FlyByNight

You had me at Vita. Fuck. Yes.

  • KoRLumen

Oh my fackn god. IT’S HAPPENINGGGGGGGG

  • Theob Vious Choice

Wow, damn am I glad I didn’t spend the assload of money it cost to import it on PS3.

  • Highasthesky

Glad to hear, though i don’t think i’ll be buying as i already own the original.

  • anon

Honestly never thought it would happen.

  • 9breaker

I apologize but.. I didn’t like J-stars victory vs at all. I loved the ds games but this one wasn’t for me. But glad to see something like this coming here state side.

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

      • 9breaker

    • roockie112

I totally feel you after a few hours of gameplay I got bored of the game I guess it really isn’t my time of game .

    • Kalis Konig

Fully agree. Compared to the DS games it was quite bad. Hopefully if one comes to the 3ds it will be like the past games and get a western release.

    • Go2hell66

      no need to apologise

  • Go2hell66

i saw it coming, namco will localise anything and everything at this point

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Sadly, Shokugeki No Soma wasn’t really popular yet back when this game was released
would have been awesome to see every Jump characters having “Foodgasm”

    • AkuLord3

U mean a…FOOD FIGHT *throws shit at Mr. Clean*…ummmm

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

  • NeoStrayCat

Well, here comes the mountain of comments saying, it really happened, lol! (Wasn’t expecting, but after 2 Jump games that didn’t come state-side, except on the BBY importing of Jump USS. @[email protected])

Now we wait to see if DBFC and the new Jojo fighter might come roundabout in English! (I mean, anything might be possible at this point…) X3

    • Renaldi Saputra

      DBFC is Sega
and u know how Sega is

      • NeoStrayCat

Yeah, I know, but that doesn’t stop them from putting PD-F 2nd and the recently announced Yakuza 5, but yeah, its Sony, so…@[email protected]

        • Renaldi Saputra

          You already knew that :)

          • NeoStrayCat

Yeah! X3 (But its wishful thinking at this point though.)

  • Renaldi Saputra

    Dammit bamco!!!!!

Please also do for re:digitize decode and cyber sleuth

    • Kalis Konig

Really amazes me that out of all the stuff Bamco has been localizing they still have yet to give Digimon fans a proper game.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        We still have 2 options:

        1. Tweet giocorsi from Sony for Cyber Sleuth

        2. Keep support Operation Decode for unlocalized digigames by requesting Bamco or anything that is possible

  • Kalis Konig

Would be cool if they added those rumored DLC characters as well.

    • Internet is Crash

I hope they add it so I can build my team Koyasu (Bobobo, Neuro, and the rumored Dio)

  • Kalis Konig

Nice. If this is getting localized I have no doubts that the Ippo game will see at least a digital release now.

  • Adrian Duran

the only thing that surprises me more than the games that don’t get localized, are the games that do get localized

    • Renaldi Saputra

      Faith in Bamco restored

      Now Sega can bury themselves

    • Yan Zhao

A licensing nightmare like this game can get localized, but 90% of Sega’s shit cant. Sigh.

Well Im grateful for Bandai Namco to say the list, they are quickly rising to the ranks of my favorite developers along with Atlus, TecmoKoei, and Nintendo. Sega and Capcom can stay on the most hated list.

  • Shippoyasha

One of the most ridiculous news in recent history.

I really hope stuff like Super Robot Wars featuring licensed mecha shows is next.

    • 9breaker

o-one could hope, I feel like I’m only playing half the game every time I import them.

  • Rick Hawkins

Yeeaah… I’m never going to import another game again. This is like the third game I’ve imported that had ‘absolutely no chance of being localised ever’ this year.

  • Blesmi

Wow, that’s a really big surprise! A shame about the quality of the actual game though, but still. Good step in the right direction hopefully.

  • I don’t care how bad people say this game is I’m FREAKING HYPED FOR THIS SHIT!!!! Team Medaka, Toriko & Goku LETS GO!!!!!

    • Txu Zai

Being so hyped about this game….damn your in for major disappointment.

      • To be honest I’m not that hyped for it but I really enjoyed anarchy reigns and this game looks pretty much no different

        • Viewtiful_Gene

Watch out. That’s like comparing Burnout with Big Rigs.

          • not really in the end your just beating people up in a 3D environment but this time your characters from multiple anime’ and you can use there amazingly awesome attacks

        • Txu Zai

Anarchy Reigns is awesome! Not seen many people who like that game. :)

          • Death Metal

One more here. I really wondered why there was never any segment to it. One of the few games I beat from start to finish without getting engaged with any other game on the meanwhile.

  • Cephrien

Uhm. This game is seriously seriously bad.
I imported it for the ps3 around the time of its release and it was god ass awful. I hope the “plus” means its gonna have some work done on it.

    • machomuu

At the very least, I’m hoping for a good number of new characters.

Revamped mechanics and the like would be fantastic, though.

    • Death Metal

      Why is it bad?

      • Cephrien

        Hell where do I start.
        1. Important characters missing from the roster
        2. Horrendous balancing. Characters that are beyond broken. With cheap infinites and OHKOs.
        3. Awful controls. Limited options on mobility and defense.
        4. Stupid design choices like letting your team have clones. (Team Vegeta with Vegeta support)
        5. Terrible online. Players are cheap. Ranked match consists of the most broken characters.
        6. If your partner is defeated, the game is over and the two of you share only two “lives”.
        7. Absolutely no options to defend yourself against two opponents. If you’re left alone, you will be juggled to death.
        8. Did I mention the options in mobility are dumb? By default your character runs stupid slow. Jumping is crap and even DANGEROUS. You cant defend yourself in the air and you have unsafe animations when you land from a jump.

        I could honestly go on

        • Kamakuma

Not sure you an tribute the online as a factor as it being bad imo. As I find it a moot point to try and use to persuade others against it. I mean I myself lost my partner during the connecting to the match and still managed to pull a holy kicking while being outnumbered.

With Kenshin and a actually competent AI Ryousu. (Surprising isn’t it?) Although I was on Vita so not sure how to controls change from there to PS3. But I’m still enjoying the game as the controls are easy to learn on that and from there smooth sailing. Now there are unbalanced characters yes. (Vegata, and Saki’s damn rocks.) But mostly others you can counter easily. Infinite combo luffy? Hit him with a fully charged Spirit wave to the face or grab his face and pound him to the ground or go Gintoki and just away.. >>

Still I do hope they balance these issues and get ride of those ridiculous invisibility frames… That’s the only major problem I had not sure about you but if you got caught in the air with something that was your fault… You have to think you moves through in the heat of the moment. I mean I was able to jump out of the way upon seeing Vegeta power up into super sand legend.(Your hint he’s about to Final Flash) And still pull a win… x’D

          • Cephrien

You make the game sound like a battle of the minds or something and its really not. Maybe when everyone wants to be fair and use characters that aren’t wicked broken. xD
Luffy is probably one of the LEAST broken out of all the broken characters. He has an infinite, but at least he has to actually be able to get close to you and (against some characters who can just zone you to death all day) thats not easy.
Even then, the only way to be able to fight broken fighters is with another broken fighter and thats not fun. You should be able to pick your favorite Shonen Jump character(s) and have an equal chance against everyone as long as you have the means and skill.

Also in terms getting caught in the air. You literally only have three or four options in terms of defense. You can either sprint away (

          • Kamakuma

Well I’ve fought broken chars and still managed to win is what I’m saying. And don’t get me wrong I probably shouldn’t make it seem like just because I can do it doesn’t mean everyone else has to or should have to. So I’ll apologize there. x’D I mean truly if you want to speak broken characters look at Toriko, Vegeta, Medaka, Tsuna, Ichigo Gon… x’D Like half the cast tbh but most take skill in order to even use in the first place. x’D (Ichigo I mean unless you spam tenso with the mask >>) Even Vegeta can be a curve ball to use imo.

And Luffy will get close to you if you aren’t careful that little sucker is quick. Almost like Hiei(FTW). And really Yusukes bane is his victory burst just ****kick him on the ground and laugh while he demon forms up and just lightly falls to the ground… (I lol’d so hard first time I saw that and was like err… Did the game just smite this man for me?! x’DD)

          • Cephrien

Thats the problem though. Of course there’s a fair and “skilled” way to play the characters. But everyone will just abuse the system and be cheap instead because it’s easier and more effective.

Abusing the game shouldnt be an option in the first place. Thats what im getting at.

          • Kamakuma

Well I wouldn’t say skilled per say as the game gives you hints at combo’s during loading screens remember? That kinda speeds up the process and then it becomes muscle memory. x’3 (Did you see Ace’s 25 something hit combo during the load screen my jaw dropped… And they give you that one as a freebie ><) It's our job to find the best way to corporate these moves though and when your enemy comes charging it's good to think on the fly on how to prepare yourself. (Am I gonna guard and hope my stamina holds or attempt the might Justa-Guard and avoid them entirely and begin my counter attack?) Those are just some things to take into account I guess imo.

Although still I don't think it's fair to just use everyone as not everyone will abuse the system in order to obtain victory. It will be a bit of a hard thing for me to say half and half do or don't as it's hard to give statistics on that honestly. But I'll give you it would be easier for newcomers if they didn't have to put up with the bull in the first place. :'o Hopefully they fix many of the games shortcomings and make it more friendly yea.

          • Cephrien

(Which only works for so long)
You can try and block (which drains stamina. So its useless when you’re alone against a pair who are wailing on you relentlessly. Then your guard will break and you’ll just get combo’d forever)
Dodge rolling is crap and only really works if you time it right at the last moment of an attack. Even then, against two opponents, its useless.

You can try jumping I guess. But if you’re playing on a stage thats just flat surface, you’re only safe until you touch the ground and then you’ll just get beaten again because you have vulnerable animations FROM LANDING A JUMP.

          • Kamakuma

And I’ll honestly say telling your AI unit commands makes the game a whole different ball game as from what I’ve seen as you play more and don’t quote me on this but my AI was able to keep up with me numerous times when it was 2 players vs 1 players with AI partner. As by default they are on er… Balance or free mode? But if you adjust it to like attack, or support(?) for the combo breaks or whatever it’s called things change and they really do support you very well. I’ll give them that.

        • Death Metal

Dude, you broke my heart :( I was so hyped for this game (even though I did not have the courage to import it). Really not worth getting? Would you compare how bad it is to any other game? I see the screenshots and still looks good… I’m crushed now. :/

But thanks for your opinion, appreciated!

          • Cephrien

If you wanna give it a try man, go ahead. Its was more of a burn to someone like me who spent almost 100 to import it.
Maybe there is hope and the plus actually -does- mean that there will be improvements. But yeah, I just wanna give people a warning. If you plan to get this game, I highly suggest that you don’t get it for the online multiplayer.

The story mode might be nice and worth it for Jump fans since itll be in english. The most fun I had with the game wad teaming up with my couch buddy and beating the snot out of the A.I.
But even that gets boring after awhile since the A.I. is dumb as nails and poses absolutely no challenge.

          • Death Metal

It’s definitely an alert. I think I will try the game before opting to purchase it blindly (as I normally do). Thanks again for your input, man.

  • Spirit Macardi

Wow, I wonder how they’re going to manage the dub cast. Sure you’ve got LA people like Johnny Yong Bosch, Matt Mercer, and Kaiji Tang, but then you also need some Texas talent like Colleen Clinkenbeard and Ian Sinclair. It’ll be a hell of a feat to pull off, but I’m sure it’ll turn out fantast-

    Wait… Oh crap, it’s going to be Japanese-only isn’t it…

    • AkuLord3

Not sure why that’s a bad thing or a surprise. Some series never came over or had animes and some character don’t have voices in West yet .

      • Spirit Macardi

That just means voicing for them would be even easier, since there’s never been an official actor so you can literally get anyone to do it.

  • Jeremy Noble

    • Dexward

      DAY ONE, BABY!!

  • Viewtiful_Gene

    Truly unexpected indeed, Namco.
Now, please, PLEASE BRING THE [email protected]: ONE FOR ALL

  • James Robert Thompson

Wow, unexpected… Still, this game was just way too inconvenient to play; you need another player to effectively play it online as one-v-one is just too poorly balanced and the AI is terrible. Honestly this game really pays no thought for how people are actually going to play it.

  • Lloyd Christmas

Good thing I managed to resist all those impulsive urges to import.

  • Riverstyx9

This is such great news. Been wanting to play j-stars for such a long time! I remember reading an article a long while ago that j-stars would never release outside of Japan because of some international copy right issues with some of the characters. idk, something like that. Anyway, more localizations are always a good thing. Hopefully cyber sleuth and god eater 2 are next! Since sao lost song is all, but confirmed to come west.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      Re:digitize decode, ge2rb, cyber sleuth

And if they really dare, SRW non OG series
      or kamen rider batride wars

      • I truly wish for the Kamen Rider Battride games. That would be great. I actually own the first game.

        • Renaldi Saputra

Well, sadly most people only know power ranger in the west

The only KR game localized was that Dragon Knight aka Ryuuki

          • Yeah, which is a shame. Though on the other hand, didn’t we get a Saint Seiya game, and that’s not really known anymore in the west?

          • Renaldi Saputra

            Brave Soldier right?
Well, Saint Seiya actually is still often being discussed by the fandom which is much bigger in Latin America and also Europe maybe. It isn’t popular only in North America IIRC

          • Ohh, okay. … this still doesn’t discount me wanting them to try for Battride though, even if it’s purely digital. ;;

      • MadokaXHomura

If all of those games release in west, that be dream come true.

        • Renaldi Saputra

And my faith in Bamco will be fully restored

  • Pandakids09 .

So glad i didn’t import this now just have to wait till summer

  • t-jay

Now Hopefully a Gundam VS game can come to America and I will gladly buy it again just to have it in English.

  • James Reilly

Holy sh1t. Bamco really going beast mode.

  • NightzeroAX

Good, because I sure hell ain’t spending 100$ on no game.

    • The College Student

Wait! It’s doesn’t cost $100 dollars lol. xD

      • NightzeroAX

        TinyURL.com/ph9fzb7 Amazon says otherwise.

        • The College Student

Don’t pay $100 dollars for it lol. Buy it cheap. :)

          • NightzeroAX

Been doing alot of shopping on Amazon that I forgot PlayAsia exists.

          • The College Student

Oh okay. I shop on Amazon too! ^__^

  • Grunwald

Whoa no way, seriously!? SO GLAD I DECIDED NOT TO IMPORT

  • ign0tonous
  • Bob Slim

I did not see this coming ever

    They made it happen

  • golden izanagi

I’m honestly surprised by this as I would think licensing issues would be a factor in preventing this game from coming to America at all.

    • Viewtiful_Gene

“Licenssig issues”… ha, if you really knew the truth. That’s actually one of the most used and cheap excuses that every publisher gives when they just don’t care enough about certain games or DLCs.

  • Tenabrus

I love Bamco for getting this out here.

  • aizen310

If the game should actually worth a penny, I’d be hyped beyond human comprehension. But reality kicks-in, and I always get reminded that Ichigo shunpo and visored transformation, or that insulting Aizen Sousuke with no second form whatsoever.
Of course Naruto fans will enjoy… that dude has like… two forms in this game. I just… shut up. Some of the decisions made for this game is just mindnumbing.

    • William Carpenter

Glad some folks are keeping things in proper perspective.

      • aizen310

Easily my biggest letdown of this year. 1080p or not, a turd is still just a turd. It’s hard, but someone has to say it.

Anyway, will the PS4 version have 60fps?

    • AndyMAX

Is a candy game, it will have more content of more popular series, in this case Naruto.

    • AkuLord3

I’m not surprised by ur icon but despite how i feel about Bleach, it is true they didn’t put much thought into Aizen and few other characters.

    • Ahtma

“Wahhhh, muh pointy-chinned YYH knockoff didn’t get fair respresentation!”

  • hazelnut1112

Bought it and enjoyed the Japanese version for a good while.
they better balance this damb game. Especially Vegeta. Also new characters, hoping for kinnikuman.

  • Satoshi Ookami

Not that excited about this but if this comes out then nothing blocks Dengeki Fighting Climax from coming here as well!

    • Viewtiful_Gene

      Good point!

    • Renaldi Saputra

      >Nothing blocks DBFC

There is still one, and it’s Sega

      • Satoshi Ookami

Screw Sega, Atlus will persuade them xD

        • Renaldi Saputra

Atlus can only use SEGA’s dormant IP, not all their IP

  • The College Student

All I have to say about this game is…

    • No matter how true it is, I’m so sick and tired of this meme. That’s how overused it is.

      • The College Student

Sorry. I will use something else that’s new. :l

        • Lol. Don’t worry about it. We’ll keep on getting new and awesome games and localisations without end and people will react to the news and post this meme until something new takes it’s place

  • kirito1998

im…… not…. crying. OMG!! Thank u lord its coming here. This better not be false info

    • Renaldi Saputra

Official from their tumblr, twitter, and facebook

      • kirito1998

  • Schiller

New Gintama series in 2015 and now this… Best Christmas in years!

    • AkuLord3

  • TheSwordUser

It will be both sad and amusing if Bandai Namco will localize everything *except* Cyber Sleuth.

    • Renaldi Saputra

    • 9breaker

      I’m with you on that.

    • William Carpenter

Not sure the two are really comparable. Once they get over the hurdle of licensing, there’s not a whole lot to localize for J-Stars Victory.

    • Elron

      Cyber Sleuth? Nah, i’m still waiting on Re:Digitize Decode ;_;

  • Heropon

I have been waiting for this

    • William Carpenter

      Me too, Akihiko.

  • William Carpenter

So hype! Dreams really do come true.

  • Namuro

Unlike other games like Super Robot Taisen that has a lot of characters that belong to different companies. I guess all the characters from Shounen Jump can just be lumped under the same group, so that they can be used, even if their series were never even localized outside of Japan.

That’s great, then! We can probably expect to see all the future Shounen Jump related games being localized in the future!

    • Hunts Rattata

IIRC, a lot of the Shonen Jump franchise localization distribution rights are split amongst entirely separate companies, so the localization on this was probably still a nightmare. It might even turn out like Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, where one character from the Japanese release wasn’t in the updated international release because they couldn’t get the rights to him back.

      • WeretigerRei

Yeah but most shonen Jump rights are mostly owned by Viz, Funimation, Manga Entertainment and other big licensers. The problem with Tatsunoko was that many were owned by alot of separate ones.

      • Namuro

That should be the case in general. So I’m quite surprised that they’re localizing this as it is… They didn’t cut out any character, did they?

Anyway, I thought that maybe they might be able to overcome the individual rights by grouping them in as just “Shounen Jump” characters. This way, it should be easier for future localization and such.

But who knows? This might just be one special case, and they might not be able to do something like this again.

  • Monterossa

PlayStation will always be the best choice for Japanese game lovers.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

      And Nintendo.

      • Mila

        NO , Where’s my Fatal Frame 4 / 5 since Nintendo publish them ?

      • MaidKillua

That region lock and certain US only releases are so conducive to our niche tastes, right?

        • Stephen Mc Devitt

Oh! Well, when it comes to localisation and region, Sony wins in spades.

  • NyaBoy

Hey Don’t Forget US ! The Game have been confirmed for EUROPE too !

  • LM009

    Dengeki Bunko FC when?

  • AndyMAX

  • Cliff Ruiter

I hope they will include English voices in this version of J Stars!!

    • Why? T_T

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

Doubt it. None of the Funimation voice cast voiced the characters in One Piece Pirate Warriors. In fact, has Boa Hancock still not have a english dub voice actor?

I would love to hear Richard Epcar as Bobobo again.

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

Probably the best characters to look forward to is Kenshiro and Bobobo.

My GOD!!! O.O YESSS!! PS4 Version without question! Annd also a PS-Vita copy for on the go :D Thank you Bandai Namco!!

  • ivanchu77

The fact that they are going to cut characters worries me quite a bit…..

    • Ahtma

      Hasn’t been confirmed.

      • MrJechgo

They might though… For some reason, the parent company, Jump, can’t force its English localization teams to work together to pool their licenses together for a crossover… which, to me, is pretty dumb, because if both the game studio and manga publisher want to publish the game, they should force the hands of everyone involved.

Not every game can be as lucky as Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Even then, Hakushon Daimaoh got cut from the international release due to the license being held by an Italian publisher; the rest didn’t have holders and since only Karas had a holder, if was easier to work with them only. The game didn’t get english voices though and its character themes got cut as well, replaced by “generic” stage themes.

The same can be said for Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and Nitroplus Blasters: Heroines Infinite Duel. The parent company can’t order the localization teams to swallow their pride and work together, so it’s never goona happen… unless the parent company opens a North American branch that takes care of everything.

    • Guest

Uh, they haven’t said anything hinting at that at all.

  • Adam Sheridan

Sweet. I’ll import this one for a party game.

  • z_merquise

This is very surprising but I love it! More Japanese games like this should be localized. I really hope something like Super Robot Wars will be possible soon.

  • First Clannad and now a Jump game. The 2 most impossible that I wanted possible have finally been achieved. But I hope it doesn’t stop there. Keep surprising me, localisation teams! ^_^

  • Buitronthecrazy .

what? how they could overcome the licensing hell?

    • PenguinPlayer

Doesn’t all the licenses belong to Shueisha, the publishers of Shounen Jump? Then again, maybe some trouble might arise from the people that publishes the manga or the anime in North America or in other places, but if all they have is a distribution deal and no control over the actual IPs, there would be no trouble.

It all comes down to the specifics of the agreements between Shueisha and the worldwide publishers, which we have no access to.

  • PenguinPlayer

I don’t like Shounen Jump that much, but this game comes with playable Korosensei doesn’t it? If so, it’s a day one must buy. I love Assassination Classroom. And having more games to play with buddies is always a cool thing.

  • Kamakuma

I was just trying to plat this for Vita today with just one trophy left… T-The tears they are real. D-Day one… t–t

  • Princess_Eevee9

Would’ve bought a PS4 if it wasn’t also coming to the PS3, Day 1 buy! I dreamed of this day but even they didn’t show it actually happening.

  • PowerSerg

PLease please please gods ps3 physical release, if so day one buy so hard.

    • PowerSerg

Also anyone else hoping for a few new playable characters in this version. Core version had enough of a cast for me to want it but we can never go wrong with more characters.

  • Soltrigger

Did you just hear that? That was the sound of my jaw hitting the floor at mach 1 speed.

    • Omegajak

Better pick it up, and may the sun be with you.

      • Soltrigger

I do so love it when people make Boktai references. +1 internets to you my good sir.

  • ZetaSiren

Bandai Namco loves us :D (๑•̀ㅁ•́๑)✧

    • Learii

they don’t use to but now they do

  • DudeJericho

I played this in Japan and I gotta say it’s not that impressive, plus some characters are just overpowered as fuck (Vegeta being one of them). Would be cool if they balanced some stuff out.

    • Dylan Anantha

Poor Vegeta deserves it at least, the poor guy does nothing but have his ego deflated every season.

      • DudeJericho

        Can’t disagree.

  • Binah Moore

this is crazy. i cant believe its actually happening

  • ZelpherFayt

    O M G

  • Omegajak

Yo. If Freedom Wars can make it ANYTHING’S possible.

    • Soltrigger

Same thing can be said for the Senran Kagura games.

      • Satoshi Ookami

But Senran is XSEED’s property, they bring it because it’s theirs.
Senran is never subject of question whether it should be localized or not.

        • Soltrigger

I know who Senran belongs to. I was just saying that, like J-Stars Victory VS +, the Senran Kagura games were not likely to come state side. And since they did, that gives us hope for other less likely games to be localized.

  • FierstArter

Wait, is this only coming for the ps4 in the states? Kind of a shame.

    • Shadow Rebirth

3 of them will be localized in English

      • FierstArter

Great! Thanks for the answer d(^_^)

  • fairysun

This really surprised me. I already imported and played through the game. Congrats on anyone who are waiting for this one.

One word of advice: The game is heavily inbalance, but hey, this is the only series where you can have Son Goku, Naruto, Luffy and Rurouni Kenshin in a brawl.

Hopefully they have dual audio feature. The intro quotes sometimes are very funny (especially the ones that involve Gintoki and Joseph Joestar)

    • z_merquise

I enjoy games like Super Robot Wars, Queen’s Gate: Spiral Chaos and Project X Zone more because of my favorite characters from different series joining together.

I still find those games fun no matter how much flaws they had but the cross-over appeal is one of the biggest selling point for me. It’s going to be the same case for this game.

      • British_Otaku

As a fellow Platinum fan, I’ll give you another warning even if it is one based on the original game. This game is sluggish, unbalanced, projectiles are god tier (YYH’s Yusuke can charge a projectile and run) and invincibility time is too long.

Perhaps, you got through Project X Zone (only one I played out of the bunch – I’ll barely finish it if I ever do) and such because they were single player affairs with less of a competitive sense with em.

On Super Robot Wars, I’ve only played the SD G Generation Gundam game on 3DS and it was pretty well balanced as a SRPG… More so than Fire Emblem Awakening anyway. Which SRW was it?

        • Kamakuma

Invincibility frames were a major problem yea. x’D But you could dodge the projectiles easily though. :’o As for the unbalanced those were always a issue I’ll agree as if you weren’t experienced and just went online and fought some uber high ranked guy they’d wreck your face with Vegeta support and unlim combo’s. And being new you’d just never go online ever again after a experience like that.

So I’ll agree to that too but with practice those things become a thing of the past and easy to get around. Still hope things get reworked for the better. :’3 I’ll gladly hope that annoying baby Taro isn’t in this though…*Shivers*

Also I do HOPE they fix the trophy glitches that can occur and make you delete your entire save file to get them back in working order… That was a pain and a turn off. v..v

          • British_Otaku

I didn’t play online much but the design seemed to make projectiles too valuable even if they limited the invincibility to a more proper time frame. Range which can span much of a stage, the most powerful moves, usually knocking the enemy back so you can get another ready and movement (and damage) doesn’t make standard combos a reasonable option.

Yusuke was a monster as well, but I guess I’ll return to the game and give it another look sooner or later. Personally hope that no one gets cut, I think One Piece has too many characters and that they should have given other series decent representation but given that someone is bound to like them and that Taro is the only character from his series, I hope he sticks around.

I don’t care for trophies, but they better have that on their priority list. I can put up with lost time occasionally, but if I cared for everything in a game (Arkham Asylum and most Platinum games) mostly as they are tied to game content, I wouldn’t want to lose progress.

        • z_merquise

Ouch. I was expecting the game to be at least fun. I won’t mind being unbalanced but it sure is frustrating when some moves are broken and can be abused.

I started playing SRW games since the PS1. I find them less tactical than Fire Emblem games. Every SRW games always had a unit who end up being overpowered while boss fights in later stages were tedious because of their vagillion HP. I still find them fun to play plus attack animations were always amazing.

          • British_Otaku

Perhaps, you’ll be lucky and they will release a demo so you can get a better impression, I have heard that they are at least working on that invincibility time (notably shorter).

I’m sure that in general, that Bandai Namco’s SRW and SD Gundam G Generation aren’t as tactical as Fire Emblem though SDGGG3D (3DS one) let us choose the characters and mobile suits (upgrading, buying them and kidnapping them), so I managed to avoid a single or duo of overpowered units.

I think those games at the least probably hold more charm and design skill than the original version of this.

    • Rawindra

Patrick Seitz should voiced both Gintoki, Joseph, & Oga.

Maybe Liam O’Brien should voiced Jotaro

      • Spirit Macardi

Actually Matt Mercer was Jotaro’s English voice in the anime. And Patrick Seitz was Dio.

    • British_Otaku

“this is the only series where you can have Son Goku, Naruto, Luffy and Rurouni Kenshin in a brawl.”

Jump Superstars and Jump Ultimate Stars are both better picks if you really want to have those characters fight each other. Unbalanced is also missing how the combat system generally doesn’t work with sluggish combat, overpowered projectiles (YYH), a powered up mode which ruins pacing and super long invincibility times.

      • Slayven19

Well neither of those games can go online anymore either IIRC, so you’d basically be playing alone for any of that to matter.

        • British_Otaku

A fair point that it would be offline only, but if it is what I have to endure to have a good game and the single player and local multiplayer is good. No problem.

  • I bet the people who imported this game fell stupid now

    • 하세요

Doubt it. After all, by the time this comes out, it’ll be a year+ since it was released in Japan. I import games that I even know are coming overseas because why wait an entire year or more if I can enjoy it right now.

Especially in games like this where text is pretty damn irrelevant even if you don’t know Japanese.

      • I’m one those rare people when i play a fighting game i like to know what people are saying. I don,t care if they speak dub but at least let them have English texts.

Some of my best moment from fg for me was reading what they say after a fight in the text box! I will never forget those quotes in kof snk vs capcom etc

        • Drev

what if we actually KNOW what they are saying in japanese j-stars? Are we genius? Or maybe we just watched those anime in Japanese, so we want to hear them in japanese, just saying…

          • I never said you didn’t ? I was saying to the guy that respond to me that most people in the west don’t speak Japanese so English text would be relevant!

          • Drev

It’s still a fighting game btw, not a jrpg, even if you don’t understand japanese, it’s still a fighting game..

      • Guardian Byakko

I imported this game and got upset reading I could’ve saved some money due to it coming to north america, but after reading your comment I’m not so mad. So thanks.

    • British_Otaku

A little wiser, I got to experience how poor it is in advance so I can’t be won over by “OMG ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM IN A GAME!” twice with the same general software.

    • subsamuel01

I’m so glad I waited, now I can actually understand what I’m playing. Plus its on the Playstation 4.

    • NTaiyokun

I was in Japan at the time, so it was only like 64 dollars. It’s not like I blew 80 on it, so I’m not that pissed.

  • dahuuuundge

JSVV is a horrible brawler compared to Gundam Extreme VS and Jump Ultimate Stars. No amount of polishing will make this turd better.

    • Yeah, this doesn’t look too great unfortunately. Wish we could’ve gotten those DS fighters…

  • eilegz

now i really hope that namco bandai can release maxi boost here by the time it get a console release

  • koksuckaahh

I wake up at like 5 in the morning stumble on this article, i thinkto myself im dreaming…wake up again looks at the article for a good 2 minutes and a single tear falls from my eye…next up is dengeki bunko.

    • Rawindra

Hope for Console Updates since 1.30 arcade version of having Akira & Selvaria’s own story

If Sega & Dengeki Bunko recently announced another updates or sequels: I could have the characters like Yuji Sakai, Cyan Pyle (Assist: Lime Bell), Emi Yusa, Ariadust/P-01 (Assist: Toori Aoi), Sonic (Assist: Tails), Sakura Shinguji (Assist: Ichiro Ogami) & like i said before about ask Tecmo Koei to join in for their partnerships in developing DOA5, like including Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane & Kasumi (Assists: Momiji, Hayate), Sterkenburg Cranach (Assist: Gino Knab) & the new final boss Orochi (X) (Assist: Kyubi) while other regular guests as mid-bosses for respective characters

  • Rawindra

Add the characters who were originally DLC in as default additions, plz

  • Ooh snap, it’s on now! :D

  • aizen310

Meh. At least add new characters.
Ahh… I have a better idea. Make some characters more usable or more canon to their main franchise.

I want my long-haired Hougyoku Aizen form!!! Ichigo had Mugetsu, so what is the excuse :/ Come… oooon!!! :/

  • Genjo

its DAY one buy for me !~

    • Soltrigger

      Same here.

  • Slayven19

Wow? Really? LOL I guess I’ll but it to show support at least.

  • DanielGearSolid

    …………. Greatness Awaits

  • Learii

Namco fire up in 2015 in North America no one never knew this going to localized

  • Viewtiful_Gene

Battlestadium D.O.N. was fantastic, why they didn’t continue the franchise?!

  • Thelastgunstar

I….wait…woah…I’m honestly blown away here! Never thought a title like this could get localized. Hell, while they’re at it, why not bring over some SRW! C’mon!

  • Here’s hoping for Dengeki Bunko

  • MiloXZ

plz, add yoh asakura this time as a “plus”

  • WOOOOOO! I almost imported this! :D Now I won’t have to!

PS3, 2015… not rolling over and dying just yet. We got Atelier, Tales, Persona, J-Stars and more still to come, yeah ( ^ – ^ )

  • SlickRoach

Pretty much my reaction to this game coming to NA.
Haven’t been this surprised at a game headed over here since Jojo: ASB.

    Now about Eyes of Heaven…

  • kirito1998

after the release of freedom wars for vita, with its good sale. Many games have been getting localized for vita real fast. Now I just have to wait for GE:2RB and PSO, because with this game getting localized I feel like everything is possible

  • Leafia133

make the dam support only characters fully playable like support only is so dumb in a fighting game

    • Vallen

Allen Walker needs to be playable :(

  • Vallen

I hope it’s physical and not digital only……

  • MaidKillua

I literally don’t care at all about the bad things I heard about this because I CAN PLAY AS KILLUA. Wonder who they’ll get to voice him and Gon given that HxH 2011 still has no dub and the ’99 one is atrocious

    • i doubt they will dub this game

      • MaidKillua

I agree but I saw other people speculating on potential voices and felt like joining in

      • Totally Da Real Ducked

I doubt it too but if they do Luffy better use his Funimation voice!

  • RagnoSaki

Mother of Gawd game of the year!

    • machomuu

      Nonono, nono. No.

I own this game, and it’s…well, not game of the year material. Then again, who knows what they’ll add in +.

      • RagnoSaki

Ok maybe not game of the year but its definitely what i’m looking for in a crossover fighting game. :3

  • Jiff

    This just in:
Bamco learns how to make intellegent decisions.

  • RagingTiger44

This is some surreal shit. Never thought I’d see the day.

  • Ngurah Danda

this game is suck when played on one-on-one matches, the camera anggle looks confusing, if they made it like ultimate ninja storm i’m sure it’ll be a great game when you play it with friend

    • Jsouth

Maybe you didn’t understand how the game worked but the mechanics were perfect. Ninja storm is good as a naruto game you need to look further then a place where your comfortable I play storm and I’m good at it I play this and I’m good at you need to evolve your gaming bruh.

      • Ngurah Danda

no, what i mean is, when you play 2 player game, the screen cut in two, this is what i mean by looks confusing, because you can only see your character movement in small screen, i only use 32inch tv so it really bother me, in ultimate storm when you play 2 player game, the game didn’t cut the screen in two for you and your friend, instead it still using 1 screen, this looks more comfortable to see and play

      • Ngurah Danda

        it looks like this, http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/aPYwFv1NjDc/0.jpg

the UI looks too crowded, and you can’t see enemies movement properly

  • Kornelious

NO…..WAY! I never thought the day would come when I would see this happen!….I think I might cry a bit :,)

And to make it even better its coming to the PS4 as well….How awesome is that! My friend is especially happy to here this (Being almost ready to import it) So I’m really excited as well! :D

I just hope the game is a physical release and that they don’t cut any characters because of licensing…That would be a heart breaker X(

And if its possible to get this localized then I could say the same for Dengeki Bunk Fighting Climax!…..If it wasn’t Sega -_-

  • peacehunter94

yes now i don’t have to import, now i really hoped they could do this kind of game with the developers that made the dbz budokai games now that would be awesome.

  • I hope they sell a more expensive copy with the vocals for the opening, if they can’t do it for the regular versions. Because I really like the theme.

  • Strider Hien

Remember being jealous of Japan when they released the Jump Superstars series and couldn’t play it(Didn’t even own a DS…V_V)

My Vita, prepare thy slot…….Anime’s greatest heroes are getting their battle ON!!!!! >:O

*Seriously, though……We need to support this,me thinks. This can make or brake it all.
