Ahh… Lode Runner we meet again and you’ve come a long way from being a stick figure. When Hudson picked up the rights to make a Famicom game they replaced the enemies with robots that look like Bomberman and a hero who bears a resemblance to Mario.

Maybe that was the inspiration for Guyver, a romhacker who took the Lode Runner template and switched out the graphics with Super Mario Brothers sprites. Lumps of gold become coins, robots become koopas and Mario is the hero in the hack. It’s all in Russian, but the language barrier isn’t great since Lode Runner is far from a story heavy game. Get the patch here and enjoy climbing beanstalks instead of ladders.
