Nintendo Celebrates Kirby’s Birthday With eShop Releases

The first Kirby game was Kirby’s Dream Land, which was released on the Game Boy in the west in August 1992. Nintendo has a habit of honoring the day by adding Virtual Console games to the various Nintendo eShops in North America. Last year, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, and Kirby Squeak Squad joined the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console library as part of the celebration. This year, Kirby’s Dream Course, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and Kirby’s Mass Attack are the newest titles in the North American Nintendo eShop.

Kirby’s Dream Course is a golfing game that originally appeared on the Super Nintendo. Players take Kirby through eight courses, each with eight holes, using him as the ball. He has a certain number of hit points each round, which are lost every time you take a shot and hit an enemy. The goal is to get Kirby in the hole on or under par, earning a place on the high score table. It’s available for New Nintendo 3DS systems for $7.99.

Kirby’s Epic Yarn originally appeared on the Nintendo Wii. This is a platformer where Kirby teams up with Prince Fluff to help save Patch Land, a world made entirely out of fabric and cloth. While he doesn’t have his typical copy abilities in this adventure, his yarny nature allows him to transform into vehicles for special segments. It’s $19.99 on the Nintendo Wii U.

Kirby Mass Attack is a Nintendo DS game. Due to a magic spell, Kirby has been split into 10 copies of himself. Since the splintering has taken away some of his normal power and abilities, it’s up to players to control the number of Kirbys on screen so they can complete objectives and find their way to specific areas. Since copy abilities are out, you tap and flick on the touch screen to attack enemies with the extra Kirbys. You can play it on your Nintendo Wii U, starting today, for $9.99.
