Tetsuya Nomura’s Comments Suggest A New Development For The Worlds Ends With You

It’s been over 11 years since we first played The World Ends With You, and we’re getting a new remaster for Switch soon, but Tetsuya Nomura sees it as a new beginning.

Here are some highlights that were shared by Tetsuya Nomura during The World Ends With You: Final Remix’s TGS 2018 Special Stage:

What was the reason for releasing Final Mix now that it’s been 11 years after the release of the DS version?

Tetsuya Nomura: “In every country I’ve had interviews, I got many requests asking for it, and I’ve spent the past 11 years thinking ‘We need to do something again sometime.’ However, when the Nintendo Switch released it was the perfect hardware for it, so I thought it was a good opportunity and decided to announce Final Mix.”

When did the idea for “A New day” come to be, and when does it take place in the timeline?

Tetsuya Nomura: “Around after releasing the original game 11 years ago, we talked about all kinds of ideas for what to do next. The time has come for us to bring The World Ends With You back to the world again, but since we can’t just throw in some ideas to make the next game, we wanted a little something that is connected or hints  [what’s next]. That’s how it come to be. As for the timeline, it’s a story that takes place after the ending.”

Lastly, after the stage event, Tetsuya Nomura shared the following comments:

Tetsuya Nomura: “The game that fans have continued supporting is finally reviving after 11 years. Rather than thinking of it as a remaster, I’m thinking of it as starting once again. I want to make it into a development that will make you feel like it was worth your time to have supported it for so long.”

The World Ends With You launches in Japan on September 27, 2018 for Nintendo Switch. The game releases in the West in October 12, 2018.
