Fallout 76 Microtransaction Currency Can Be Used On Cosmetics

A Major Nelson interview with Pete Hines, Bethesda Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications, has revealed more about how Fallout 76 microtransactions will work in the game. The currency used on the supplemental purchases are called Atoms. Hines noted that, “Atoms are used in our shop to buy cosmetic things.”

During the video interview going over various elements of the game, the acquisition and usage of Fallout 76 Atoms came up towards the end of the second half. Here is Hines’ explanation about the currency.

“So Atoms are a thing that we use and handout as you play the game. Quite honestly, we throw them at you all the time. So you get them as little rewards for leaving the Vault or the first time you kill a creature or the first time you pick fruits or vegetables from somewhere. It’s a little challenge reward.

Atoms are used in our shop to buy cosmetic things, so new outfits or skins or things like that.”

Fallout 76 Atom pricing was not announced, though people will be able to earn or purchase the in-game currency. Some of the segments in the video did give an idea of how many Atoms you can earn for actions. For example, emerging from Vault 76 or completing an event while in a group rewarded the player with 20 Atoms. Xbox One owners who purchase Fallout 76 also get 500 Atoms to spend on cosmetic items right away.

Here is the Hines interview with Major Nelson that talks about Fallout 76 microtransactions. That segment begins at about the three and a half minute mark.

Fallout 76 will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14, 2018.
