Marvel’s Avengers may involve Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but even their powers combined can’t stop people from ferreting out spoilers about who they’ll be facing in the titular Square Enix-published action game. An apparent leak of the game’s Xbox Achievement List at gaming community Exophase may have exposed the identity of the game’s major antagonists. Readers who’d like to avoid potential spoilers about Marvel’s Avengers are advised not to visit the link, or read further into this story.

Editor’s Note: Spoilers for Marvel’s Avengers will follow.

One Achievement title, “New Girl Makes Good,” is awarded to players who “Defeat MODOK and the Kree.” MODOK is a longtime foil to Avengers leader Captain America. First introduced to Marvel comics in 1967, MODOK was conceived as a lifeform constructed by the villainous organization AIM (who also appear in Marvel’s Avengers). Its name is an acronym, and stands for “Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.”

The Kree, meanwhile, are an alien race in the Marvel Universe. They were first encountered by the Fantastic Four in 1967, but gained wider recognition thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There, the exploits of the Kree played various prominent background roles, appearing in Agents of SHIELD, Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy,The Inhumans. Perhaps it’s time to add Marvel’s Avengers to that long list.

Marvel’s Avengers will release for the PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on September 4th, 2020. PS4 players that preorder will also be able to participate in a playable beta sometime before release.
