Players can manually update the game by going to the Nintendo Switch main menu and hovering over the Animal Crossing: New Horizons icon. By pressing the “+” button, users can choose to do a software update via the internet. Doing so should update the game to version 2.0.

Version 2.0 adds two main features. First is the return of Brewster and The Roost Cafe, located in the Museum. Random villages can visit the cafe at random intervals while the player is at the cafe. Players can also choose to invite specific villagers by using amiibo cards through the cafe’s payphone.

The second feature is the addition of farming and cooking food. Players can now plant crops such as wheat, tomatoes, and potatoes and use them in DIY cooking recipes. The dishes will replenish energy when consumed, and players can also choose to use them as decoration. The free 2.0 update also adds several new and returning villagers from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update is immediately available for free on the Nintendo Switch. Additionally, the Happy Home Paradise paid DLC is set to release on November 5, 2021.
