Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Nelke

Nelke’s Painting Provides a New End-Game Challenge in Atelier Lydie & Suelle DX

When Atelier Mysterious Trilogy DX launched in April 2021 it came with loads of new content for all three games. New costumes, new playable characters, photo mode, and previous DLC are all bundled together. Perhaps the most intriguing new content is Nelke’s painting in Atelier Lydie & Suelle DX. The question I’ve seen most while diving through Reddit pondered whether or not Nelke’s painting makes her town building spin-off canon in the Atelier universe. Now, I may not be able to definitively answer that particular question (I personally believe it does) but I can tell you how to collect this painting for the gallery and what lurks within.

Spoiler Alert – Minor Story Spoilers Below

Nelke Painting scrap

As you play through Lydie and Suelle’s story, the twins discover mysterious scraps hidden in each of the story’s core paintings. They won’t show up until you defeat the monster at the end of the brush. So when you head into those living works of art in search of better crafting materials be sure to keep your eyes open! A short scene happens once the twins have about half the scraps in hand. If you’re ever unsure how many pieces you’ve collected, a quick look inside the trunk in the atelier will set you straight.

Once all nine scraps are in your possession, another scene triggers when Lydie and Suelle return to their atelier. It’s time to hang this painting in the gallery and visit Westwald. Westwald is a great place to look for high quality crafting items. And you are going to need them. The Remplir have infected Nelke’s painting, threatening its very existence. This, of course, will not do. The sisters were promised fruit from the Granzweit Tree. They are going to make darn sure nothing happens to Westwald before then. You best come prepared for what comes next. Craft the best of the best items and gear for your main party because you are going to need them.

Nelke Painting photomode

The only negative to this DLC is that Nelke does not join your merry band. If you’re a fan of this city official, snapping screenshots during cutscenes and catching her in photo mode is the best you’re going to get. I’m a sporadic player of Atelier titles and didn’t know much about Nelke before this. In researching who Nelke was and why this DLC might be important to the series I now find myself itching to explore her home first-hand. This is mostly because while you can walk around town, chat with the inhabitants, and smash boxes, you can’t go inside any of the buildings. Not even Nelke’s estate. Those kawaii buildings make for great tourist photo ops, though.

Atelier Mysterious Trilogy DX is available now on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can purchase the games separately or as a package on all three platforms.
