Bayonetta 3 Switch exclusive

Bayonetta 3 is a Switch Exclusive and Port Requests Go to Nintendo

PlatinumGames Executive Director Hideki Kamiya hinted on Twitter that Bayonetta 3, just like Bayonetta 2, will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. While this is hardly news, his tweets remind fans of the reality behind video game publishing. He pointed out that the decisions behind what console a game comes out on is not in the developer’s hands. Nintendo, as the publisher, is the one who decides how to actually sell the game.

In his tweets, he said that, just like Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3 is developed with money from Nintendo. As such, the publisher (Nintendo) is the one who can actually make decisions regarding sales. These decisions range from advertisements and brand deals to which consoles the game will appear on. In this situation, Platinum Games is only making the game. Thus, people should ask Nintendo to release Bayonetta 3 on other consoles, rather than asking Kamiya or Platinum Games. If Nintendo asks Platinum Games to develop Bayonetta 3 for other consoles, as well as provides the funds, then the company will do so. This logic applies to any other game as well.

Nintendo first announced Bayonetta 3 in 2017. Despite rumors that Platinum Games and Kamiya cancelled the game (rumors that Kamiya said were untrue), a trailer during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct finally confirmed a 2022 release window. The trailer, which is almost four minutes long, shows how the game and titular witch will look like on the Nintendo Switch.

Bayonetta 3 is in development and will appear on the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
