Siliconera’s Guide to Getting Started With Hololive Games and Fan Games

Due to the popularity of Hololive and Holostars Vtubers, there are quite a few official and fan games to play! To help sort through the growing catalog, here are some that people should really pay attention to.

Best Hololive game that isn’t an indie: AQUARIUM

So, Entergram worked with Minato Aqua to create the visual novel Aquarium. It’s basically an alternate reality dating sim in which she’s a maid you fall in love with. Other Hololive Vtubers like Houshou Marine appear too! It’s available on Steam for $20.46.

Best Hololive fighting game: Idol Showdown

Besto Games’ Idol Showdown brings in playable fighters from all branches of Hololive, and it also features even more Vtubers making cameos as supports or NPCs. It’s a really solid fighting game that consistently gets updates too! For example, Kureiji Ollie was added in October 2023. It’s on Steam for free.

Best Hololive action game: HoloCure: Save the Fans

KayAnimate went above and beyond for this Vampire Survivors-like, to the point of even adding supplemental content like farming and customizing your hub. It’s also great due to how many Vtubers and references it packs in. It’s free on Steam and Itch.io.

Best Hololive strategy game: HoloParade

Remember The Battle Cats strategy game? The one where you watch from the sidelines and dispatch units to fight waves of enemies? HoloParade is sort of like that! It’s a fun, quick, pick-up-and-play game, and it features tons of Vtubers from the company. I’d also say it is notable due to it being the first game to be released once Cover said indie developers can make money off of the Hololive fan games they make. It’s on Steam for $3.99.

Most Addictive Hololive game: Holo no Suika

Holo no Suika is TK Games’ take on the Suika (Watermelon) Game, only with the heads of Hololive Vtubers. It’s gradually gotten updates to add more characters, bring in special events, and include additional languages. What’s nice about this one is it is free-to-play and can be played in a browser on any device.

Best Holostars game: Doppelganger

So this is a multi-ending visual novel that’s an official game! It stars all the current members of Holostars Tempus, and you encounter alternate versions of the Vtubers you remember. So Regis Altare, Axel Syrios, Banzoin Hakka, Josuiji Shinri, Machina x Flayon, and Gavis Bettel are all present.  It’s $12.99 on Itch.io and headed to Steam.

Best Hololive horror game: Hololive Error

While White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is obviously a fantastic game and the best, Hololive Error reminds me a bit of it. You’re trapped in a school in Aogami investigating events at a strange school, but now find you can’t escape. The best part of this I think are the supplemental materials released on YouTube and the official site. It’s on Steam for  $9.99.

Most anticipated Hololive game: Haachama Ware Inc

A take on WarioWare, this is an Akai Haato game with cameos from other Vtubers like Ninomae Ina’nis. It involves going through brief three-second minigames where you need to press A, B, or a direction button to perform a certain action before time runs out. It’s still in development, but you can play the early build for free on Itch.io.

Best Hololive RPG: Hololive Councilrys RPG

There are quite a few Hololive and Holostars RPGs in development. This one is notable due to the care put into character sprites and designs. It’s also quite fun, especially if you like Nanashi Mumei, Ouro Kronii, Ceres Fauna, Hakos Baelz, and IRyS. It’s free on Itch.io.
