The announcement was made through the release of Nihon Falcom’s financial results report. In addition to this, Falcom has plans to release games on various platforms like the PlayStation 4, Switch, and smartphones worldwide. This includes the North American, European, and Asian regions.

Nihon Falcom also announced that due to the Trails series’s success, Trails has become one of Nihon Falcom’s flagship franchises. This is the reason for an entirely new entry of the Trails series being released for the 40th anniversary. The Ys series was also mentioned in the financial report.

Additionally, the financial report mentioned that while the situation surrounding COVID-19 remains, it has not impacted the development of these new titles (including the new Trails game) at this time. However, the developer will continue to monitor the situation.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV is the most recent Western release in the Trails series. Recently, an issue was resolved regarding the distribution of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’s Digital Deluxe Edition. This included users being unable to pre-load or access their digital copy of the game.
