Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo revealed during a shareholder meeting that the company is working on its own game engine. [Thanks, @michsuzu via Gamestalk.]
Q: When new titles release, it’s not rare to see concern regarding graphics. I’d like to hear about the measures you’re taking to improve graphics.
Toshihiro Kondo, Falcom President: “I’m aware that this has been a point of interest for the past few years. Our company’s technical capabilities have improved since the PSP days. We’ve also been thinking about the limits of depiction of current game engines.”
Toshihiro Kondo: “A new game engine is currently in development in-house. However, it’ll be a while until we have a title that uses it. The Phyre Engine used for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel was made by Sony, but [the new engine] will be markedly improved. We’ve had long discussions within the company for a while, but I’d like to see how things go after integrating a new engine.”
In case you missed it, Falcom announced The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki for PlayStation 4. Additionally, The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki are also releasing for PS4 this Spring in Japan.
