Genshin Impact Publisher 2022 Mobile Earnings Reached $1.7 Billion

Genshin Impact publisher HoYoverse reached total gross earning of $1.7 billion in 2022, according to data from Appmagic and Citi Research. This cemented the developer-publisher’s position as the third highest grossing mobile publisher of the year, just below Tencent and NetEase. The data was shared on Twitter by Reuters tech correspondent Josh Ye, which lists the top 30 grossing mobile publishers of 2022. However, the data does not include third-party Android sales and will not account for a sizable number of downloads and purchases outside of western Europe and North America. As HoYoverse’s most popular title, Genshin Impact accounted for around $1.4 billion of HoYoverse’s total gross revenue in 2022. The title reached $4 billion in lifetime revenue in December 2022. That is a little over two years since its launch on September 28, 2020. The full list, as featured in Ye’s tweet, can be seen below:

The grid allows people to see the Genshin Impact developer and publisher’s earnings compared to its top three contemporaries, Tencent and NetEase. The League of Legends and Diablo Immortal publishers each reported $6.3 billion and $2.2 billion, respectively. Although only one Japanese publisher occupies the top ten, with Bandai Namco in seventh place ($1.1bil), Square Enix ($848mil), Konami ($786m), Cygames ($662m), and XFlag ($620m) each earned positions in the top 20. Fate/Grand Order publisher Aniplex fell outside of the top 20 with $579 million gross. Genshin Impact is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile devices. The 3.4 update will arrive on January 18, 2023.
