Genshin Impact Environmental Damage Will Be Rebalanced (Update)

When the Genshin Impact 1.1 update launched, it did more than add new quests and characters. It also fixed bugs. But one fixed turned out to be a bit overzealous. Genshin Impact environmental damage ended up being higher than intended, and miHoYo announced rebalancing and fixes are in the works. Editor’s Note: As of November 13, 2020, the fix is now live.

The developer’s response also explained how it happened. Before the 1.1 patch, Genshin Impact environmental damage wasn’t scaling properly. In the game, you can increase your World Level as you level up to keep enemies at your level and competitive. In the announcement that it would be remedied, miHoYo admitted, “This version update fix has, in practice, thus resulted in more harm than good to the player experience.” A fix isn’t available yet, but one is on the way.

For those wondering about how this effect might affect your experience, it is most notable when in an open, grassy area and a Pyro skill is used or a Flaming Flower causes a burning patch. If you faced, say, some Hilichurl Grenadiers or a Pyro Abyss Mage and the grass caught fire, the burning effect would be much higher than intended and swiftly drain the active character’s health.

Genshin Impact is available for the PlayStation 4, PC, and both Android and Apple iOS devices. It will come to the Nintendo Switch eventually as well.
