The standalone version is the full game, priced at 5,229 yen, and comes with Burst’s leading Aragami, Hannibal, on the cover:

The append version is an add-on disc you can buy, containing all of Burst’s new features, if you already own the original God Eater. The append version’s cover uses another Aragami, Susano, and looks like this:

The difference is beyond simply artistic. According to Namco Bandai’s God Eater development blog, the standalone version of God Eater Burst’s cover focuses on communicating that Burst contains all of the content from the original game. The two characters on the cover are wearing old equipment from the original.

Meanwhile, the append version aims at conveying the new costume and weapon design, and add-ons in Burst. However! Regardless of which version you buy, you’ll be able to use either cover — God Eater Burst comes with reversible packaging. Here, look:

D3 Publisher are set to release the standalone God Eater Burst in North America sometime in 2011. In Europe, Namco will retain publishing rights to the game. Provided there’s no reversible packaging, which cover would you prefer?
