When voice chat comes to the Nintendo Switch, players are going to need to use their cell phones to talk with other people in-game. It does not go only through the system. This means things can get a little complicated when it comes to headsets. Hori has released some information on its official Splatoon 2 headset, showing exactly how it works with the system when it is in Handheld or Tabletop Mode.
A squid-shaped adapter is included with the Hori Splatoon 2 headset. For the voice chat audio, you must plug it into your phone. To incorporate the game audio, you need to plug it into the system. You then plug the headset into the squid’s head. The cables are all under 20 inches long, which means this would work best when the Nintendo Switch is in Handheld Mode. The adapter itself allows you to turn the microphone on and off.
The Hori Splatoon 2 headset will have a detachable microphone, so you can use it as headphones. You can also swap the covers, with green and red ones included in the box. Also, since it is a Forge-branded headset in real life, it appears in Splatoon 2 under the Forge brand for your Inkling to acquire and wear.
Splatoon 2 launches on July 21, 2017 on the Nintendo Switch. Hori’s Splatoon 2 headset will also be released on that day for ¥3,480. A worldwide release has yet to be announced for the headset.
