In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, combat has many elements, such as status effects that can be either “Beneficial” or “Detrimental.” Here is how Detrimental Status Effect works in FF7 Rebirth and a list of every negative combat effect in the game.
Detrimental Status Rffect in FF7 Rebirth explained
During combat in FF7 Rebirth, you may have noticed something called “Detrimental Status Effect” when using “Access” to find an enemies weakness. If you are confused what this means, that is perfectly understandable as the game’s tutorial doesn’t really cover it heavily. We’ve got you covered, though, as we’ve had over 120 hours in the game’s story to understand how the mechanic works.
There are both “Benficial” and “Detrimental” status effects in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combat. With Beneficial, you have positive spells such as “Bravery,” which boosts your attack power, or “Haste,” which speeds up how fast your ATB meter fills up. On the other side of the spectrum is the Detrimental Status Effect in FF7 Rebirth, which consists of negative effects such as “Poison” and “Venom” which drain your health over time.
One way to tell if you have a Detrimental Status Effect has been applied to a character is to keep an eye on their health bar. For the example used in this guide, my Cloud was inflicted with “Venom” status. You can see it in the image below:
Another way to tell is the visual cues around your character. In my gameplay, Cloud started having green bubbles pop up around his character model. You can also see purple damage numbers appear above his body as Venom slowly drains HP as long as the effect is active.
All Detrimental Status Effects in FF7 Rebirth
There are around 17 Detrimental Status Effects in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Some of the most common ones you will see are “Sleep” and “Stun.” However, the mechanic gets a bit more complex the further you get into the game. An example of this is the Instant Death status, which you will encounter during the Tonberry King FF7 Rebirth battle. The deadly spell does exactly as its name sounds like and will knock your party member out with a single hit.
Here is the full list of every Detrmental Status Effect in FF7 Rebirth:
- Berserk
- Increases damage dealt and received.
- Fury
- Quickens limit break gauge charge but become more vulnerable to damage.
- Sedate
- Become less vulnerable to damage but slows limit break gauge charge.
- Deshell
- Reduces magic defense.
- Debrave
- Reduces attack power.
- Defaith
- Reduces magic attack power.
- Slow
- Decreases the rate at which ATB Gauge fills.
- Poison
- Gradually saps HP.
- Venom
- Gradually saps HP at moderate levels.
- Silence
- Unable to cast spells.
- Sleep
- Unable to act.
- Stop
- Unable to act (remove with Esuna).
- Stun
- Unable to act (remove with Esuna).
- Toad
- Greatly, lowers battle capabilities (transforms character into a frog).
- Stone
- Become petrified and KO’d.
- Petrify
- Slowly turn to stone (KO’s when fully petrified)
- Instant Death
- Instantly knocked out if spell hits character.
There are items that can cure negative combat effects, such as Sedative, which removes Fury status from a character. However, the Remedy item is the best as it cures all Detrimental Status Effects in the game. There are also rare accessories that can be equipped on characters to make them immune to specific spells.
