In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the Safety Bit accessory prevents Cloud from being knocked out by Instant Death spells. Here is how to get Safety Bit to stop Instant Death in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth during the Don Corneo Tonberry King boss fight.

If you have reached Chapter 8 and are trying to complete the “The Saga of the Seaside Inn” Side Quest for Johnny in Costa del Sol, you may quickly realize how difficult it is to defeat the Tonberry King due to “Instant Death.” The spell works exactly like it sounds, as it knocks Cloud out with a single hit, regardless of how much HP he has. In Chapter 12, a fight with Don Corneo will also have you struggling as you will face off against three enemies who can spam this insta-death spell. However, the Safety Bit item makes you immune against this devastating attack.
The Saftey Bit accessory can be found on the Coal Mines tracks during the second half of Chapter 7: Those Left Behind in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. After you complete the mine section with Yuffie, the game will jump back to Cloud, who is tasked with “switching the tracks” for their minecart ride through Mt. Corel. You can find the exact location of Safety Bit in FF7 Rebirth on the map below:
The first step is completing the lengthy Coal Mine section with Yuffie. Once you finish that, you will take control of Cloud again, who will be walking on the minecart tracks. The Safety Bit accessory is found near the switch Cloud must pull to change the tracks. You will find a side path with a ladder leading up to a plateau.
Once you ascend the ladder, you will see a worn-down shack at the end of the area. Dispatch of the two enemies that are inside of the building. The battle should be fairly easy; however, you may need to use the dodge and attack combo to send Cloud flying in the air to hit the flying creatures.
After you’ve taken them out, you will find a glowing yellow chest. Open it, and you will automatically get the Safety Bit item. You can now find it in your “Materia & Equipment” menu. The Chapter 7 item is incredibly useful as it now makes you completely immune to Instant Death in the game.
How to prevent Instant Death in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
To stop Instant Death in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, you need to equip the Safety Bit accessory on the character you are controlling in battle. However, this only applies to the character you are battling with. So, in battles where Instant Death is present, you will want to stick with the person who has the rare Accessory equipped.
Below are the steps to prevent Instant Death in FF7 Rebirth:
- Find the Safety Bit Accessory during Chapter 7: Those Left Behind.
- Pause your game and click the “Materia & Equipment” menu.
- Select the character you are going to use, and select the “Accessory” slot on them.
- Find Safety Bit and equip it to your character.
- While in battle, use the character who has Safety Bit. When hit with the Instant Death spell, they will not take any damage at all now. So you can just stand there and unleash attacks on them.
The Safety Bit accessory is key to defeating Tonberry King in Johnny’s “The Saga of the Seaside Inn” quest in the Corel Region. During the Costa del Sol side quest, the classic monster’s giant knife will glow purple and then throw out the devastating spell. However, it will no longer do any damage if you have the item equipped.
Similarly, in Chapter 12, there is a massive fight in the main story where you have to survive Instant Death. You need to equip Safety Bit before starting Dio’s tournament, however, as you can’t switch your items once the event has started.
