How to Access Multiplayer in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a sprawling experience with expansive landscapes and locations to explore, but did you know that you can do all of this in multiplayer? However, unlocking this option in Genshin Impact can require quite the investment if you’re advancing the game at a leisurely pace.

Unfortunately, co-op can only be accessed once you’ve hit Adventure Rank 16. Before that, you will have to travel the world of Teyvat on your own. Thankfully, once you’ve reached Adventure Rank 16 you can immediately engage in cooperative play with other players. You can access the menu for co-op on the upper left-hand section of the screen. It will be a circular icon with a star in the center.

Genshin Impact Co-Op Window

Accessing this menu will pull up the co-op screen. From there, you can request to join the lobbies of other players or even invite friends to join you. You can find friends using their UID to join their game, but they also need to be Adventure Rank 16 and have the same World Level in order for access this feature. (Increasing World Level is based on story progression, so you’ll need to plan accordingly if you or your friends are blasting through the story.) In order to accept an invite to your game you’ll need to accept via a timed bar that will appear at the top of your screen. You can have up to three other players in your game at a time.

With one other person both of you will be allotted control of two characters of your choice. When two people are part of the lobby alongside the host, the host will have control over two characters, while guests will only be able to use one. With four players, each member will be able to control one character. You can switch characters outside of combat, so you’re not locked to whoever you bring in.

There are some caveats with Genshin Impact‘s multiplayer system as well. Travelers that join your world will not be able to pick up anemoculi and geomoculi for example. They also will not be able to access the functions of any Statue of the Seven in your world, and you won’t be able to activate any Statues of Seven while players are currently in your world. Additionally, if you are visiting another Traveler’s world you will not be able to open any random chests.

At the very least, exploring the world of Teyvat with friends is still loads of fun, even with these restrictions.
