How do I use Mana Eggs in Grandia?

Mana Eggs are rare items only found in specific parts of Grandia. They are an incredibly rare resource, indicated on the world map by a blue gem-like object. You’ll also automatically gain your first Mana Egg by defeating the Giant Squid on the Ghost Ship when Feena joins the party.

Once you have a Mana Egg, you’ll need to take it to a shop and look for a staff icon. Here, you can trade Mana Eggs for one spell each. The first shop where you’ll find this option is the Adventurer’s Store in New Parm, which features a magic shop in addition to the weapons, armor and general items you’ll have seen in previous shops.

Which magic should I use Mana Eggs on?

There are four options for magic to use your Mana Eggs on in Grandia. Each of these are based on the traditional four elements: fire, wind, water and earth. However, due to the limited nature of Mana Eggs, you’ll need to be picky about who gets which element. In addition, you can’t change this decision afterwards. Once you purchase magic, it’s assigned permanently.

Two of the four elements will instantly provide a damaging spell. Fire and Wind will give their assigned character Burn or Howl respectively. You’ll likely have used Feena’s Burn spell prior to this, so you’ll have an idea how it works, and Howl works similarly.

Water and Earth’s base spell each operates differently. Water is primarily a healing magic, so its base spell is Heal, which recovers HP. Earth acts as a protective magic, so its base spell, Diggin’, gives the party a buff to defense when it’s used.

If you need suggestions on who should receive which magic, Justin excels with Fire and Earth magic, Water will allow Sue to become an early game healer and both Water and Earth complement Feena’s automatic Fire skills with healing or buffing respectively. Of course, it’s worth experimenting with these options as the game progresses.

The Grandia HD Collection is available now for Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
