Katherine will be in danger from six Shadows during her exploration of the labyrinth. She can hide from them, but to fully rid herself of them, she will need to find ways to fight back using adventure-game like item interactions. Until they are ready to fight back, players will need to pay attention to the positional audio to know when these creatures are lurking nearby.

Along the way, players will need to find clues to piece together Katherine’s past, which are hidden throughout the game’s maze-like environments. If they do so, they can stop the effects that have made her nightmares real.

Should players find that Katherine’s nightmares aren’t all that challenging, Insane Decay of Mind offers several difficulty levels and three variants on the maze.
