Nexon announced that Mabinogi’s action MMORPG prequel Vindictus will shut down in Japan, where it’s known as Mabinogi Heroes, after almost seven years of service since its launch in November 2011.

Vindictus takes place in the same setting as Mabinogi, but it takes place several hundred years before the first game when the world was in war and strife. It’s a free-to-play title that offers an action-based system and more realistic graphics compared to its more anime-style MMORPG sequel.

The game first launched in Japan on November 30, 2011 and it will shut down on August 29, 2018. Its microtransaction items purchased with Nexon Points are no longer available as of today, but items that have already been purchased can still be used until the game shuts down.

Nexon is planning a special event to commemorate the end of Vindictus in Japan, and will share more information on that on a later date.

Vindictus is available on PC via Steam.
