Mega Man powers up… learns Chinese?

Whether you know it as Mega Man Powered Up or Rockman Rockman, Capcom’s PSP remake of Mega Man just turned two years old. However, Capcom is releasing a new version of Rockman Rockman in Asia with Chinese text. Capcom Korea has been known to release Korean versions of some Mega Man games, but seeing any Mega Man installment in Chinese is a first.

Actually, more and more publishers are beginning to localize games into Chinese. Microsoft released Halo 3, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon with full Chinese text. Sony translated Shadow of the Colossus, Coded Soul (note: we don’t even have this in English yet), My Stylist, Folklore, Echchrome, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, a bunch of the Ape Escape games… well, many first party releases into proper Chinese.

Nintendo hasn’t been as proactive when it comes to capturing China. Their partnership that created the iQue brand localized Band Brothers, Nintendogs and most recently Super Mario 64 DS into Chinese. However, Nintendo didn’t really bother with Korea and now they’re aggressively entering the market with plenty of games in Hangul.

Will full Chinese games be the next trend in localization? If so, what’s after that?
