As a battle royale style action game, My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble will pit eight teams of three against each other on a massive battlefield to determine who reigns supreme. The battlefield in this case is modeled after the Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ), a mass facility used by U.A. High to train prospective heroes in a variety of environments. The teams will traverse the field seeking out items and equipment to upgrade their “Quirk” superpowers with. Quirks become more powerful depending on the items gathered, as demonstrated by the example of Shoto Todoroki, whose Level 4 Ice Wall is much larger and more durable than a Level 1 wall. Players can also trade items between themselves to ensure they have the best upgrades their respective characters can employ.

The trailer also confirmed the inclusion of various My Hero Academia characters in Ultra Rumble. Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Izuku Midoriya are prominently featured. Their classmates Tsuyu Asui and Ochako Uraraka are also present. For Pro Heroes, All Might, Cementoss, and Mt. Lady all demonstrate their powers, with Mt. Lady able to to use her size-changing power to grow to giant form. Antagonists are also playable, with Himiko Toga, Mister Compress, Dabi, and Tomura Shigaraki representing the League of Villains.

The official site of My Hero Academia Rumble also announced a closed beta test scheduled for February 2-6, 2022. It will be open to 10,000 players in Japan on PS4. Registration for the closed beta opened on January 17, 2022 and will continue through January 28, 2022. Interested players can register at this link (Japanese only) and will be informed if they are selected by January 31, 2022.
