New Bayonetta Origins Gameplay Shows Cheshire Using Elemental Cores

Nintendo of Europe took to Twitter to share gameplay footage from Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon that shows how your companion Cheshire will be able to gain powers from Elemental Cores. So far, we have seen a wood-enhanced form that uses vines to pull platforms and entangle enemies. there is also a stone core that is able to be used as a bounce-pad, as well as allow Cheshire to shield Cereza from hazards. The Cheshire water form uses a stream of water as an attack and a form of propulsion. Finally, there is a Fire form that melts ice barriers and scorches enemies.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a prequel to the Bayonetta series that shows the titular character back when she was known as Cereza. The game follows her searching the Avalon forest for the power to save her mother with the aid of her demon-possessed doll, Cheshire. Players will control both Cheshire and Cereza simultaneously to solve puzzles and fight enemies together.

Cheshire previously appeared in Bayonetta 3 where he also aided the witch Viola. Platinum Games’ official Youtube channel recently uploaded a video discussing his design in that game, where he maintains his doll-like form. It is also possible Bayonetta Origins will provide more detail about the characters’ backstories ahead of a the possible Bayonetta 4.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is set to release on March 17, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, whilst Bayonetta 3 is immediately available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch.
