Nintendo Pushes Back 64GB Switch Game Cards To 2019

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that 64GB Nintendo Switch game cards, originally intended to be available for developers in the second half of 2018, have now been pushed back to 2019 due to technical issues. (Thanks, Takashi Mochizuki)

The current maximum amount the Switch game cards can currently hold is 32GB, less than the 50GB Blu-ray discs used in other consoles. Some developers said that they needed the 64GB cards, and others were originally hoping that the release of the cards would affect the pricing for smaller capacity cards.

The Wall Street Journal’s source told them that some software makers, particularly U.S.-based publishers making data-heavy games, were disappointed. Currently, several U.S.-published games, such as DOOM, have circumvented data limits by requiring additional digital downloads for extra features.
