In response to things like COVID-19 coronavirus shelter in place orders and concerns over the health of attendees, many events have taken measures such as delaying conventions, canceling events, or going to digital alternative. The latest one to do so is Pocket Gamer Connects, which is going digital in 2020 with Pocket Gamer Connects Digital. The event will run online between April 6-10, 2020 at its online hub.
Pocket Gamer Connects Digital is more of a technical and educational event along the lines of a thing like GDC 2020, which was postponed, had talks moved online, and will hold a tentative GDC Summer 2020 event in August 2020. Many of its presentations and seminars can involve indie or mobile developers offering insights, suggestions, and ways for developers and publishers to connect. For example, some of the 2020 presentations include Niantic’s “AR Game Design 101,” a “Tools for Making Your Game More Awesome” panel with people from Unreal Engine, Big Karma, Genvid Technologies, and Impeller Studios speaking, and Glow Up Games’ “Storytelling & Design – How to Create a Healthy Balance Between Soul & Systems.”
Both the Big Indie Pitch mobile and PC + console editions are also taking place online, with the former being held April 8, 2020 and the latter on April 7, 2020. These are events where developers can pitch their game ideas to get passes to Pocket Gamer Connects Digital for just applying and promotional packages if they have some of the best game pitches.
Pocket Gamer Connects Digital will run April 6-10, 2020.
