Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet Expansion Announced

Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet Expansion Arrives in March

As expected, a Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet expansion is in the works. On March 31, 2023, it will appear in all regions. It will add the ex mechanic to the game alongside Paldean Pokemon. This will also mark a design change. The cards released outside Japan will now feature grey borders instead of yellow ones.

The English announcement for the expansion only confirmed a few cards featuring new Pokemon. The two legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon will appear. Each will be ex cards. With this mechanic, one that is knocked out gives the other person two prize cards instead of one. However, as these are ex cards, they will be stronger than usual.

Some teaser art for the Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet expansion also appeared. Three of the cards show the returning Pokemon Mimikyu, Lucario, and Magnezone. However, the Koraidon and Miraidon ex cards show the complete art and the redesign with grey borders.

There’s also a trailer showing those five cards.

The change to the borders isn’t the only redesign coming to Pokemon TCG. Cards will now feature expansion codes, rather than symbols, Trainer card subcategory notes will appear in the upper right corner, and basic energy cards will get a second symbol on the bottom of each one.

The Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet expansion will debut worldwide on March 31, 2023. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch now.
