PS4, PS5, and Xbox Ports of Monster Hunter Rise Will Be Digital Only

Capcom announced that the PS4, PS5, and Xbox ports of Monster Hunter Rise will be digital only. So far, it does not plan to release physical copies of the game. This is an update to the news from early December 2022 that Monster Hunter Rise will appear on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. [Thanks, Gematsu!]

For reference, the only way to get a physical version of the game is to purchase it for the Nintendo Switch. When Capcom ported it to PC in 2022, it was also digital only. The lack of a physical release of Monster Hunter Rise is the latest in updates regarding the PS4, PS5, and Xbox ports.  Capcom previously announced that there would be no cross-save support between the PS4 and the PS5 versions of the game.

Monster Hunter Rise came out in 2021 and is the sixth mainline entry in the Monster Hunter series. Like other Monster Hunter games, most of the game has you hunting monsters and then making food or supplies out of the materials you obtain. An expansion pack, Sunbreak, came out in June 2022, with new additions and enhancements to the base game. As of August 2022, the base game has sold over 11 million copies, and Sunbreak sold over 4 million.

Monster Hunter Rise will come out on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One on January 20, 2023 for digital download. It is readily available for the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
