In 2019, Square Enix announced that it was bringing over the smartphone title Romancing SaGa Re;universe to the West, but since then, we haven’t gotten much news on it. However, Square Enix announced that the game’s Western version is now open for pre-registration ahead of a March 2020 closed beta and Summer 2020 launch.
Romancing SaGa Re;universe is set 300 years after Romancing SaGa 3 and features a story about the rise of the Sinistrals once again. Both returning characters and newcomers will appear for fans to collect and use in battle. The game released in Japan in late 2018 and became a hit, with over 15 million downloads accrued. According to Sensor Tower data, the game made $5 million across Apple iOS and Android devices from the Japanese version alone in January 2020.
SaGa creator Akitoshi Kawazu, as well as other veteran developers, were involved in the making of the game. The title’s battle system retains the series’ traditional RPG mechanics and even has the Sparking system, where units you use can learn new moves in the midst of battle.
Currently, you can find the game’s page on Google Play. There will be a Closed Beta Test in late March that Android players can participate in, and players may be chosen to join if they click pre-register on the page.
