Tips for Using Temenos in Octopath Traveler 2

Temenos is your cleric in Octopath Traveler 2 and, while that means he’s your healer, it also means he’s probably one of the best supporters you get. He makes all nighttime battles much more manageable just by existing. In addition, he — or whoever you equip with the cleric secondary job — becomes invaluable in the endgame due to Aelfric’s Blessing.

How Do You Recruit Temenos in Octopath Traveler 2

If you didn’t pick Temenos as your first character, then you’ll be able to find and recruit him in Flamechurch.

How Does Temenos Work in Octopath Traveler 2

Temenos is your cleric, which basically means he’s your Octopath Traveler 2 designated healer. He’s the one who gets a multitarget heal spell off the bat, as well as the only one with a multitarget revive spell.

Here’s the list of all the job abilities he can learn.

  • Heal Wounds: 15SP to heal every ally’s health, Temenos included.
  • Holy Light: 6SP single-target light spell.
  • Prayer to the Flame: 8SP single ally physical and elemental defense buff.
  • Mystical Staff: 6SP single-target, two-hit staff attack that restores 10% of damage as SP.
  • Luminescence: 14SP AOE light spell.
  • Sacred Shield: 10SP buff that reduces damage for one ally from the next attack by half.
  • Revive: 40SP to revive all fainted allies.
  • Aelfric’s Blessing: One ally can act twice each turn, with the second action being at the end after everyone acted. This lasts for three turns.

Okay. So. Here’s what you do. The first thing Temenos should learn is Revive if he isn’t the character you choose as your first one. If you go through his first chapter, you should have it by the end.

If he is the first character you chose, then pick Luminescence as your first skill. His staff-based physical attack isn’t that strong and he’ll need the multi-target spell to survive to reach the second ally.

Luminescence and Revive are your priorities, then go for Mystical Staff and Sacred Shield. Make sure you learn all cleric moves before moving on to secondary job stuff, because Aelfric’s Blessing is a godsend for boss fights and the endgame.

You should also always make sure it is night when Temenos is in your party. He has the Moonlight Judgment Talent. This means for the first turn in battle, all enemies will be blinded. For the first three turns in battle, they’ll also have their physical and elemental defense debuffed. He’s handy!

Finally, his Latent Power limit break Judgment is handy both for general fights and when using his Coerce ability. No matter what attack he uses, if you have Judgment cued up, the enemy will lose shield points. It’s fantastic.

What About Temenos Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions?

With Temenos, you’re getting someone who can recruit NPCs during the day via Guide, then Corce them into providing him with information at night.

Guide is incredibly handy. However, it is tied to Temenos’ level. So if you haven’t spent time with him, it might be better to go with Ochette’s Befriend or Partitio’s Hire to use a certain amount of food or money to get an NPC to follow you instead.

With Coerce, it can be a means of getting information without worrying about a percentage of success, money, or a character’s level. However, it is tied to breaking an individual’s shield. As he only starts with staff and light magic attacks as a cleric, you’ll need to add a secondary class that ups the number of abilities he can use.

Which Secondary Jobs are Good for Temenos in Octopath Traveler 2

Honestly, there are two routes I’ve gone for Temenos. One is to make his secondary job in Octopath Traveler 2 the scholar, so you can use him as an all-purpose mage. The other is to also have him working as a dancer.

With the scholar role, the reason is obvious. Temenos is already going to be functioning as a cleric to heal and buff allies. By making him a scholar, you also give him fire, ice, and lightning magic in addition to light.

As for the dancer position, you turn Temenos into the ultimate supporter. This means he’ll be great at buffing or debuffing. You’ll also be giving him a knife he can use on the very rare occasion you might want him to physically attack. (Don’t laugh! It could happen! Especially if he’s trying to Coerce somebody!)

Of course, if you want to make Temenos a master coercer, then go with armsmaster so he has access to every weapon. But I’d recommend saving that for Hikari or Ochette.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.
