What is the Destiny 2 New Subclass in The Final Shape? Prismatic Explained

Destiny 2 is getting a new subclass in The Final Shape called Prismatic, and it completely overhauls the game by allowing players to mix and match abilities. Here is how the new Destiny 2 Prismatic subclass works in The Final Shape and what you can do when going Transcedent with a Titan, Hunter, or Warlock.

How Destiny 2 Prismatic Works – New Subclass in The Final Shape Explained

Destiny 2’s new subclass is called Prismatic in The Final Shape expansion, and it allows players to combine all three class abilities on their character. Yes, you read that right. As a Hunter, you can now have abilities from Titan and Warlock on your character. Prismatic is essentially the final form of your Guardian and allows them to access all abilities.

As if this wasn’t broken enough, players will also gain access to a special Prismatic grenade after becoming “Transcendent.” The new grenade is class-based and combines two elements together such as Strand and Arc. Below is a list of the Destiny 2 Prismatic Transdecent combinations that Bungie has revealed so far:

  • Titans
    • Strand / Arc
  • Warlock
    • Stasis / Void
  • Hunter
    • Fire / Ice

How does Destiny 2 Transcedent work in The Final Shape?

A major component of the Destiny 2 Prismatic subclass is the new “Light and Dark Meter.” As players dish out damage, they can fill this bar up by earning enough Light and Dark energy to turn their character “Transcendent.” This is basically a powerful new state that buffs all of your damage to extreme levels.

However, the most important aspect of the Destiny 2 Transcedent mode is the Prismastic Grenade. As stated above, this deadly new ability combines two elements together, such as Stasis and Void, for devastating effect. Triggering Transcendent in Destiny 2 will also automatically refill your grenade and melee ability. So if timed right, players can chain this together for a pretty broken gameplay loop.

While there is still a lot we don’t know, the Destiny 2 new subclass in the Final Shape appears to be a game changer. It essentially overhauls everything we know about the base game by breaking the barriers between classes. And it doesn’t just stop there.

Bungie also announced that the Final Shape will feature a new Prismatic Exotic Item, which allows players to mix and match Exotic Perks. If you are in shock reading that, I don’t blame you. But it’s true: You can now take Perks from one Exotic and combine them with another to create a new Exotic item.

One thing that should be noted, though, is that Bungie has not said whether there will be “limits” on Prismatic. In the Final Shape gameplay showcase, they did say “certain abilities,” which means we might not be able to combine all class powers into one character while using the new Prismatic subclass.

If there is one takeaway from the latest Destiny 2 The Final Shape showcase, though, it’s that Bungie is putting a heavy emphasis on player choice. You can customize your Guardian like never before by combining class abilities and exotic perks in unique ways.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
