Which 2023 Game Announcement Are You Most Thankful For?

While it’s always great to be thankful for what you have, it’s also important to be thankful for the things to come. Like when you know something big, fun, or meaningful is just ahead of you, and if you are a little patient you’ll get to savor it. So this year, we each decided to pick the 2023 game announcement we’re each most thankful for and can’t wait to play in 2024 and beyond.

It has to be Unicorn Overlordfor me. This was the best 2023 game announcement for me, and probably the most unexpected. I adore Atlus. I love many of the Vanillaware games. Tactical titles are often among my favorites. We’re combining all three with this new addition to the catalog, and it’s looking gorgeous so far. I can’t wait to play it and I’m so thankful it’s happening. — Jenni

I am really excited and grateful to be able to finally complete Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door next year. Seeing Nintendo pay attention to it and Super Mario RPG gives me hope that the series might return to its roots and bring new original characters. — Daniel

I’m thankful that Earth Defense Force 6 is finally coming to the west. I haven’t even checked what the reception was like after the Japanese release, I’m just happy to see more games in that silly little series. And if there’s enough interest in it, maybe we’ll get a simultaneous release next time, or see other developers put their spin on the formula. — Elliot

While my first instinct was to say Penny Blood, that game apparently got announced in 2022 (how time flies!). So the game announcement I’m more thankful for from this year is probably Persona 3 Reload! I loved Persona 3 and all of its little re-releases, but after experiencing the fast-paced and stylish Persona 5, it was a little hard to go back to Persona 3 and 4. I’m really excited to see new life breathed into such a beloved game. — Stephanie
